Techtacular

Seems like the last time I joined Chad for a Techy Tuesday Taco ride it was hot, overgrown and I was worn out. Nothing has changed on the latter, but the change on the first two was nice.

I was late to meet the guys, so had to play catch up, feeling the anxiousness of it. Sometimes I wonder if the effort to make it to this ride (through traffic and what not) is worth it. Today especially. But as soon as I hit the first challenging section on Ram Canyon my mind settled, and I didn’t care if I found them or not. I knew it was worth it.

I miss my techy tacos.

Tacos means do-overs, so it wasn’t hard to catch up.

I unwittingly led us to the slickrock pitch I couldn’t get myself to fully commit to last time. After watching Max ride it without much trouble I went back down and got it. Then I rode it again, just to drive the point and the confidence home in my mind.

Max did complete a ride far more epic than our “A Samaniego Epic” a few weeks back. He went up Sammie (reporting “all hike-a-bike”) then down the “Climb or Die” route aka “Lemmon Drop.” ~16 hours. The only thing he was missing was the couple hours pavement through town and the 50 year trail singletrack to close what is a truly brutal loop. Nice ride, Max, thanks for pushing the envelope.

Duncan weaves down the trail as the light fades.

I lost my camera, and once again found myself playing catch-up. I was leading at the time, but it bounced and landed under a bush, so nobody saw it.

No matter, I needed a little time alone as the sun fell and the world grew cold.

  • Hey Scott…..I know it’s the shooter, not the glass….but I’m still curious what equipment you’re on? Care to share? I just recently broke my second Sony point and shoot and am now considering swallowing the weight penalty and going with either a full SLR or one of the new hybrids in between. Since I have beaucoup miles with the airlines, I’ll still get a point and shoot for lightweight duty…but don’t know if I’m fully ready to haul a SLR if the new hybrids can do the job. Thoughts?

  • Canon 940IS is my current camera. About as small and ‘point and shoot’ as they get, but I’m pretty happy with the images. My lens cover has just started having problems opening, so I’m not sure I’d recommend it.

Can’t convince myself an SLR or hybrid is worth it yet, though I’m sure I’ll end up with one eventually.

“Nice ride, Max, thanks for pushing the envelope.” Aarrggh! Quit mixing your metaphors. It’s “stretching the envelope” (from old military test pilot lingo, as in “stretch the performance envelope”) or “pushing the limit”. Who ever pushes an envelope?

It’s not a literal envelope made of paper! You are pushing the envelope as in pushing the boundary, or the limit.

Thx, I don’t mind being called into question, no matter how pedantic. 🙂

Yes, the metaphor has been so tortured from the days of its origin (post WW II test pilots?) that the incorrect usage had become the “correct” usage. Small point. Otherwise intersting blog. I don’t miss the AZ rocks, prefer actual CO topsoil to ride on these days….
