Took a nice coolish ride on Bug Springs and Molino Trails with Chad. Overcast, no wind and 50’s. A rare day for Tucson, but perfect climbing weather.

Check out those socks…

Chad’s magic protective socks failed him. A rock popped his dérailleur into his spokes. That ended our climb, which was fine since my body (but not legs) were already feeling fatigued.

Orange high contrast lenses in my glasses meant my view was more like this:

Missed the timing on that one by a long shot. My camera will only power on half the time, and most of the buttons don’t work anymore. It’s survived many a beatdown, and will be retired with grace. New camera is on the way.

We met Paula (running) at Prison Camp. After chatting for a while she took off down the road and us down the trail. I realized she had the key to the car and would likely beat us to the bottom, so I cranked up the focus factor and unknowingly increased the fun factor as well. Molino Trail is riding well these days. Wide open, not a twig to scratch you and many opportunities to catch some air. I turned off the Arizona Trail and micro-hucked a picnic area drop, blasting down the campground road for the highway.

I caught Paula some ways past the campground. But she didn’t have the key. After some thought she remembered hearing a “clink” sound when she came out of the bathroom — back up at the top.

I put some weight on the pedals and was back at Prison Camp in no time. Retrieved the key and gritted my teeth for more mtb bliss — it’s a hard life sometimes.

All the lines were fresh in my head. I knew what I could and couldn’t get away with, and I got away with it all. I could see doing some “intervals” here. Power up the road, recover through the campground, then point ’em down to work on some other skills.
