Tying flags to spiky things in the desert

Spent a day in the Tortolita Mountains with Mark F, tying flags to spiky things in the desert. Interesting terrain. A few good rock features to include. Some switchbacks. It’s been too long since I’ve scouted new trail alignments.

We almost burned up the county’s Ford Explorer on the very 4×4 approach.

It’s going to be an interesting trail system when all is said and done. It’s still a ways off, budgetary concerns being the biggest question mark.

Paula racing in front of Gould Simpson — “my” building, though this is as close as I’ve got to it this semester. PhD stuff is about to start rolling again, though.

She had a great race. 2nd place and a PR.

From TMP.

Paula and I are off, headed southeast from home. The plan: 3-4 days of bikepacking on the AZT, ending up at Lee Blackwell’s casa in Tubac. Originally it was Sedona/Flag, but time constraints and cold/wind rolling in had us change plans.

Nothing like starting a tour from your front door.

Soon after returning from the AZT, I’ll be out following someone else’s tying of flags to spiky things in the desert. Brett Tucker and the GET. Lee and I are hoping to punch through to Albuquerque very soon.
