FSA is back

Mark Flint has revived the FSA (Foothills Suburban Assault) night ride. ‘Bout time, says I.

I waited for the group at the Country Club bridge, having ridden from home.

Golden light.

They whizzed by, en route for some bat watching at the Campbell Bridge.

We were just in time to watch them launch out for a night of revelry and bug eating.

Close up of the batty chaos:

We climbed for a while, fixed a few mechanicals,

then descended the Finger Rock Wash trail.

Not without incident! I watched Ron roll off into a ditch on the drop in — ouch!

I hit the ‘B-lines’ for the first time in the dark and succeeded in scaring myself once. With a bar light the ‘event horizon’ effect is nicely intensified. Good old fashioned fun.

It was a beautiful evening. I didn’t even have to pull out the knee warmers, temps still in the 70’s upon riding home at ~8:30p.

This morning, I’m watching this page,

for initial signs of life from Mike Curiak’s SPOT unit. He will soon start his third attempt at riding 1100 unsupported miles on the Iditarod Trail. Unsupported meaning he’s carrying 23+ days of food (total bike weight is 100+ pounds) and will not so much as step in a building the entire trip, assuming things go well!

I will be following, via SPOT satellite tracker, making speculations and maps/plots, as well as sharing a few tidbits of gear and diet selection, over at his blog:
