Enjoyed a nice technical workout on the Agua Caliente trail this evening. The wind was completely out of control, but thankfully blowing us up the steep rocky trail. The parking lot was deserted, as usual, and not a soul on the trail.
Alan and I both struggled, dabbed and walked all over the place, but smiles were fixed on our faces. This is such a good and completely overlooked trail. There were probably two dozen people riding Fantasy Island tonight, but no one up here.
We turned around at the start of the (real) hike-a-bike (most would call the whole trail a hike-a-bike). The downhill was a riot and a challenge: trying to not get blown off the trail while maintaining our wits. We rolled down the water bars and rocks amidst blooming hedgehog and prickly pear. Quite an extraordinary evening to be out.
We spent some time looking to the south, at the Rincons and Spud Rock, where we stood last weekend. Then, to the right: never-ending Tanque Verde Ridge.
I took the new Garmin 60CS out and besides using up an insane number of track points it also went beserk near the start of the track. They have some serious issues to work out in the firmware. But, I have USB transfers (tracks and waypoints) working in TopoFusion.
For now, I’m off to Salt Lake, the homeland. Paula is racing the new marathon there and I get to ride all the the climb challenges of shoreline. I can’t wait.
