Wednesday saw endless indecision over the RNR Joshua Tree trip for me. I am sure it would have been a worthwhile trip, but in the end I stayed. I have much work to do finding trails and Hottie is not running for the next week which means she’ll ride and hike with me. Who can pass up mountain biking with a Hottie? Not I.
So I awoke today, still with thoughts of joining the class, but I still could not muster the motivation to pack. A 7 hour drive wasn’t looking to friendly either.
Odin and I rolled out a bit before 8am to inform the class I wasn’t coming. Then it was on to Starr Pass.
I felt like one million dollars out there today. I kept things mellow, naturally, but I felt very strong nonetheless. We both did nothing but flounder technically–dabs all over the place. But I didn’t care. It was just great to get out. We bailed on riding Krein and even Hedgehog, only pulling a ‘standard loop’ with tech pass.
Fall has arrived which meant the ride back through town was more than bearable, even quite acceptable.
We cooked a pizza, showered and then rode back to school on our commuters. After many days of limping into school after riding, scared of the sun, it was refreshing to not be sun and battle worn riding into school. I can get used to this.
I met with my advisor and finally I’m going to start doing something new on the finding trails project. I’ve had enough parameter tweaking–getting tweaked out.
It would be nice to be camping right now, but if I were to take 4 days off to camp, I’d go somewhere with good riding and with good friends. I’m not so sure Randy’s ‘get to go to cool places for work’ gig is such a bonus.
