Enough ‘careful’ riding. After babying my injured sidewall during the AZT 300 and generally trying to avoid contact with rocks at all costs, it was high time to hit rocks hard, catch air, and be stupid on a bike again.
Jobie and Brian were scheming to head to Phoenix for South Mountain. Nobody had to twist my arm into it.
All pictures courtesy Jobie and Brian. My camera stayed in Tucson due to administrative oversight.
You know, do dumb things like slam your rear tire into stairs while attempting (and eventually succeeding) to ride them.
Jobie had a score to settle with the waterfall. The vid tells it all, with an assortment of other fun lines thrown in there as well. If you have easily offended ears you may want to turn the sound off. Jobie calls me a bad word after I clean something he said I couldn’t…
Jobie, the conqueror! It took a few tries, a crash or two, and some comedic moments, but he rolled it out, then rolled it again smoother the second time. It’s always cool to see people pushing their limits and Jobie is definitely good at that.
Brian contemplated the waterfall for a long time, eventually rolling two different lines only to get stymied at the very bottom (past the hard stuff). Otherwise he was riding well, hitting many of the other lines.
It was a perfect day. No goals, just find rock to play on and scare ourselves a little bit. To have temperatures in the 60’s in Phoenix felt almost sinful. It likely won’t be this cool again until… November?
Smiling, yeah.
That could be construed as two words…
Watching folks roll at something like the waterfall with anything less than full commitment makes me cringe. Good on him for pushing it. (I’m quite gunshy after the Moab endo-fest last month.)
by the beard of Zeus… how did I miss this trip!?
While going to school, 20 years ago at ASU, I learned how to ride mountain bikes at South Mountain. Still a classic spot. Thanks for sharing.
