Opinion on Robles Pass

I got a call today from Master Flint. He was bubbling in excitement over a drop they had just put in out at Robles Pass. I heard Tim in the background saying, “it’s only knee high.” That’s a knee higher than everything else out there. He wanted me to check it out (and the rest of the Up ‘n Over trail, which they have been trying to build technical), so of course I said, “Sure!”

I headed out from Starr Pass, wending my way through 36th street and the 6’ culvert. That connecting trail has got some fun techy climbing on it. The junction for Up ‘n Over was obvious, and I remembered that I had forgotten about it seeing it during the Rock ‘n Road time trial.

I found the rock, but missed Tim and the crew by minutes. Left to my own devices I moved one rock to open a heady little huck above the big rock. I wasn’t man enough to hit it, but I was able to roll it. Rather than try to describe to Mark where it was, I decided to shoot a video.

Then I took a couple more on the way down. The guys have done an impressive job. I wouldn’t really call it technical or challenging, but it is very, very fun to ride. There are few opportunities to catch a little air at Tucson Mountain Park, so these little ones are a welcome addition.

Mark asked my opinion of the rock/drop, and here it is: “si me gusta” and “!otro mas por favor!”

Thanks guys. Keep up the good work.
