I rode suburban assault today and felt reasonable. I’ve been tired around the house, but I’ve been busy putting everything together, studying the maps and wrenching away at my bike, so it’s to be expected. So, the Great Divide Race is a go. Fortunately I have a few more days yet to continue recovering from whatever bug had hold of me last week.
Here is a pic of my setup for the race:
A few details on the bike. Stock 18″ B-29 frame. Basically an XT group setup except for the avid 7 v-brakes. White BW.8, freshly refurbished and hopefully holding air to Mexico. Jones H-bars w/ long horn aero bars (set me back $5 at the swap meet). Moots layback post, titec patron seat. Old man Mountain Sherpa Rack with custom lower brackets (for more tire clearance).
In keeping with tradition, the lights and rear bag contents are under lock and key. I’m not as burly as MikeC and never could get used to the idea of sleeping on a car windshield visor, though. Maybe I just never found the right one…
The race starts on the 17th. Wish me safe travels.
Once again, there should be more frequent updates at http://www.greatdividerace.com
