Color Aerials in Florida
« on: October 20, 2009, 11:40:57 AM »
I've been told that the color aerials are better than the regular aerials, but I get nothing when I try them except the dreaded "checkmark". Another user from another state tried Florida for me and he got the same result. Is there anything I can do to get the color aerials of Florida? Did a search of the forum, but didn't find anything.
Some coords are 28 9.959N  80 39.606W

The color aerials are definitely better, but TF's coverage is missing a few states.  FL is one of them.  See the coverage map / list here:

I would love to find and add a source for FL imagery, but so far I haven't come across one.  Let me know if you're interested in looking and I can give you some tips / keywords to help.

Florida aerials are available from the FL DOT (link below).  Can these be incorporated by TF?

Looks like they have a nice collection of imagery, but no server software that hosts it.  Specifically, we'd need WMS (a web mapping server standard) access.  I searched around on that site for any reference to WMS or other server access, but did not see any.

Thanks for the pointer.  Still looking...

Think I found a WMS server you can use for Florida:

http://gisdata.usgs.gov/wmsconnector/com.esri.wms.Esrimap/USGS_EDC_Ortho_StateLocal?

I've connected to this server through ArcMap and can view the aerial data for the Florida counties.

Think this will work for TF?

Thanks - Paul

Yes, that should work.  FL has recently appeared on that sever, it would seem.  I will check it out -- thanks.
