TopoFusion Pro / Fatal Error: Cannot Read MapIndex.dat
« Last post by fulmar2 on April 10, 2022, 08:22:05 AM »
Hi guys; I have a rare problem that isn't critical to be solved, but I'm interested in trying to fix it.

I use a Mac and virtualize Windows...ONLY for the sake of using Topofusion.  But, now and then it is handy to have a Windows Machine.

I prefer to use Windows XP for Topofusion because it boots very quickly, but I'd been using the Windows 10 VM for convenience (other stuff works too).

So, Both VMs share the same Topofusion folder, including maps. Both copies of Topofusion are 5.72... However, when I open Topofusion in the XP copy, it gives me "Fatal Error: Cannot Read MapIndex.dat".  Opening the same source in Windows 10 works fine.

Any ideas on what may be causing this? I can remove the link on XP and start a new tiles folder... but I've downloaded 50Gb of tiles in the other folder and ideally would use that folder for both VMs.  Thanks!

TopoFusion Pro / Re: Tilesets

Hey KF!

Last time I checked the terms of service on Bing were prohibitive for TF using them unfortunately.  They wouldn't be WMS but under TMS which TF does support.  TF just doesn't have a custom TMS server capability.... yet.

There isn't a quick way to determine compatability unfortunately.  WMS is pretty good but has so many options and projections that it can be pretty arcane to really figure out what a server has.  Best way is to go to the dev console on your browser (f12 usually) and see what a site is using for a full query.  That's where I usually start.

TopoFusion Pro / Tilesets

Please excuse my laziness, but I ran into another online service (not a mapping app) that uses several appealing map tilesets that are not included in TF.
But before I immerse myself in:
http://topofusion.com/wms.php . . .

Are Bing tilesets compatible with TF?
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/bingmaps/articles/bing-maps-tile-system
If so, might you consider adding them?

And more generally, is there a quick way to determine a tileset's compatibility with TF?

See if it helps to navigate to:

TopoFusion Pro / "Land Ownership" toggle (Combo view) disables track tools
« Last post by KenF on October 20, 2021, 07:16:56 AM »
Bug?
When the "land ownership" overlay (very useful to identify public lands) is toggled ON, several tools seem to become inoperative including (1) the single point selection tool, (2) the track splitting (scissors) tool and (3) the track merging tool.

This would not seem to be the intended and/or desirable behavior.

TopoFusion Pro / Migrating from Desktop to lap top
« Last post by rfwoodvt on October 18, 2021, 03:49:42 AM »
Been working on user maps on my desk top and now need to move them and the calibration over to my laptop.  Just not sure how to migrate/export/transfer the data files over.

I did find a single post from 2009 that mentioned editing the *.ini file but I can't find such a file.  It also said in that post that a new migration process/tool would be coming in the near future...I'd hope that 12 years would be well past that time, lol

Would welcome any assistance on being able to transfer the calibration data.  Also, since my desktop has already downloaded the working imagery and map files is there a way to move those over to the laptop as well?

Thanks!

TopoFusion Pro / Re: Wonky display when resizing file "properties" window

I believe the the overflow error can be recreated by making the properties window as wide as possible, moving it left past the edge of the screen, then stretching it wider to the right. Although, admittedly, that particular sequence is not likley to ever be used.

TopoFusion Pro / Re: FIT files revisited - no waypoints
« Last post by KenF on July 31, 2021, 06:06:28 PM »
(To be filed under "stuff I thought I knew, but ignored and forgot") ;)
The situation may not be quite so simple with Garmin devices that use a "locations.fit" file
On my Epix, it appears that the "locations.fit" file is only a mirror of the waypoints/locations that are saved somewhere in the memory of the device.
That file is automatically rewritten/updated  by the device.
But, conversely,  the "saved location" memory is NOT affected by actions on the file, including deleting or replacing it.
As far as I am aware, a "saved location" can only be removed by manually accessing the "locations" list via the device itself.
Fortunately, there is a "delete all" option at the end of the list.

FULL "FIT" file compatibility would still be desirable, including the specifc ability to "download waypoints," which I presently cannot do via TF. It appears that simply reading the "locations\locations.fit" file would accompish this.

Awesome, thanks for the post!

Glad you found that something you already had (TF) did exactly what you needed.

Keep up the good work.

TopoFusion Pro / Average multiple gpx tracks. Make Network for the win!!!!!
« Last post by metalartgate on July 14, 2021, 12:10:19 PM »
Scott just wanted to shout out a big thanks. TopoFusion wins again as a favorite tool for editing GPS tracks.

I'm working on documentation of a new trail for Central Oregon Tail Alliance(COTA) that is soon going out to bid. We have several tracks of the proposed route.

Looking at tools to average the multiple tracks was frustrating most solutions involve using the scripting language R or just drawing a line by hand.  Until I saw a reference to http://topofusion.com/network.php

Played around with Make Network tweaked Contraction Strength and done!!

Thanks!
