Support for "Tempe" Sensor

Garmin is introducing an ANT+  temperature sensor that will record ambient temperature with a trackpoint.

Cool, thanks for the link.  I'll order one up and get it going in TF for sure.  I've long wished for temperature with trackpoints... would be cool (even cooler if it were integrated into the GPS units themselves! )

Agreed.
But that brings up the question - where does one place a temperature sensor to accurately record ambient conditions?
It would seem necessary to avoid direct sun exposure [edit -seems like a wrap of aluminum foil would help here], body heat  and/or heat which might be generated internally in an electronic device.

Photos suggest the "Tempe" sensor is identical in size to the Garmin foot pod.

This is very cool. Thanks for pointing this out. I'm ordering one too.

I like the fact that I won't have to buy a new GPS to record temperature.  They will probably start incorporating them within the GPS units going forward I would think.

How big is that? It looks kind of small to me, like about the size of a USB flash drive.

I believe most, if not all, GPS devices already have a temperature sensor built in. On several  Garmin units I have had, the temperature could be read on the hidden diagnostic screen that is accessible via some "secret handshake" combination of buttons. The shame is that they don't provide user access to this sensor as normal "data."

That sounds like a reasonable description. The specs  of the foot pod read 1.8" x 1"
It's probably takes a ubiquitous CR2032 battery so is not much bigger than that.
