Resolved Issue - 3D on new ATI Cards
« on: May 04, 2008, 08:02:19 PM »
This issue has been resolved (see last reply in this thread)

Right now all revisions of TopoFusion Pro have a problem with certain ATI video cards (examples: ATI Radeon HD 3400 Series, ATI Radeon HD 2400 Series).  The problem is that the 3D model appears black, though 3D tracks and waypoints work OK.

At present this appears to be a driver issue, not a bug in TopoFusion.  A ticket has been opened with ATI and we will continue to monitor this.

Please note, this only applies to 3D mode -- 2D and all other functionality is working 100%.

Thanks for the patience.

Thanks for the post. I was working on this one.

One question. I cant even open the application I get:
---------------------------
TopoFusion
---------------------------
Can't initialize DirectX: setD3DDevice failed!  Check that you have updated to DirectX 9.0c and that your video card drivers are up to date.  Also try closing any graphic intensive programs (e.g. Google Earth).
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Is there a way to change the shortcut to pass a parameter so I can use 2D. This error appears on the splash screen - so I cant change anything in the application. Pressing OK just closes the screen.

I am using an ATI Radeon Mobility Pro 7000

This error either indicates something wrong with your video card's drivers, or that the video card is running out of memory for some reason.

Have you been able to successfully run TopoFusion before?  Or has it always done this?  It may be that your card doesn't have enough memory to run in full screen (maximized) mode.

Can you send the file 'Topofusion.log' to support@topofusion.com?  That'll help us see what's going on.

There's no 2D-only mode, unfortunately, but that error indicates a problem initializing the 2D aspects (which are actually done using Direct3D, even though there's no 3D to it).

Thanks.

I have emailed as you requested. I also tried going to 800X600 and 16 mil colors, but that didnt help either.

This is no longer an issue - the latest ATI drivers (release 8/20/08) have fixed the problem.

Seems it was a driver issue all along.
