Title: Problem with 3D
Post by: Larry on December 13, 2009, 05:50:58 PM
Hey Scott,

I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem with 3D for a friend and don't quite know where to start, other than to run dxdiag. On his Win XP machine with Direct X 9.x, (c I think) 3D was working properly until a few betas ago. After that point, the 3D surface will load, but it has not tiles overlaying it. Could this have anything to do with the Direct X version? (There is no Direct X 10 for XP.)

Where should I start?

Check out the 3D settings in TF.  Crank both the texture and model size down and see if that gets it back.  Sounds like the surface may be too big, and turning the texture multiplier down should do the trick.

Otherwise, check the diagnostic file (there's a link to it in the start menu group now) for any directX errors.  Might be some clues there.

Let me know how it goes.

Hey Scott,

John M finally got around to this; your fix worked fine!
