I just checked the size of my 'master' map cache. It's well over 20gig now:

I'm quite happy with the way TopoFusion handles this large of a map cache. On my machine map display is still very fast. For all my usual 'haunts' I never have to download maps anymore.
When we designed the caching system back in ~2002, we went for maximum efficiency (while still maintaining minimal disk size), but we didn't really think we'd be operating on 20+ gigs of maps at a time. 8)
Anybody have a larger map cache than that?

Well you have me beat but not by much. I am at 16.6 Gigs. I bought a USB drive for my laptop dedicated to map data.
-
In preparation for my ballooning trip in AZ I needed to download a big portion of Southern AZ. Now up to 43Gigs. I was downloading for days!

Whoo... you win!
Prepare for even large map caches with the addition of DEM data to the mix. Yee haw! :o :P
-
I will have to read up on that. I have not figured out how to do that, or how I can use it. Sounds cool to have the DEM data offline though.
-
I just went out to the Seamless server and downloaded the DEM files for everywhere I regularly go. Total files were only about 1 GB. It works great. I am really going to enjoy being able to use these offline. Thanks Scott!!!

Actually, you could always use DEM from the seamless server offline in TF (for the last several years). However, now with v3.76+ DEM data is automatically downloaded *and* stored for offline use, as you pan around, go 3D, add elevation data to tracks, etc...
No need to do anything anymore.

I need to read th help files more often... : )
Question: I do very little "panning" to download maps. I always use the "download maps" tool by selecting an area. Is the DEM data collected using this method?
-
Not yet. Batch tool is scheduled for an overhaul and needs color aerials, DEM, etc...
-
Drooling....
I can't wait until you get these in the batch tool!

43.3 GB (so far!)
Is there a "shortcut" for the TopoWMS layer?
ie: Topo [T], B/W Aerial , Color Aerial [C], Urban Aerial , etc.
Also would be nice if it appeared in the Map drop down menu (the one between GPS and Analysis).
Thanks for a great program !!!
-
43.3 Gb, nice! You're in the running for first place.
You can set both the '1' and '2' keys as shortcuts. There are buttons for them on the CustomWMS dialog. Choose TopoWMS, then hit one of the buttons.
Those 1 and 2 shortcuts also appear in the 'Map' menu as shortcuts. Hope that helps.
