Map Cache Percent is odd
« on: July 26, 2009, 03:52:38 PM »
I don't understand the map cache size.  The manual didn't help me understand, either.
http://www.topofusion.com/manual.php

It used to be called Tile Cache Size, now it's Map Cache Size
I am assuming the "Directory for Map Data" is where map tiles/map cache is stored.
If I understand the info right, the slider should adjust the size of the Map Data directory.
It appears to have a limit of 2 gig, but the slider bar only goes up to 50% (1 Gig)

Is there a goof somewhere, or am I not understanding?
Thanks, Wayne

Hey Wayne,

That number is actually just the Memory Cache, not the disk cache.  The disk cache is unlimited (well, ok, it's limited by the size of your hard drive, but it keeps growing as you download more maps).

You can only set the memory cache to use ~50% of your available memory, so that's why it only goes to 1gig of 2gig in your case.

BTW, I've updated the manual with this info, and am going to change the dialog a bit, to indicate that the disk tile cache is unlimited in size.  Thanks.

All these years of tech support saying RTFM.....and here I went and did it   :o

You need to bike more, this stuff will wait until you get back.

I took 9 months off after graduation and before work; now my cubical gets smaller and smaller (literally) ever time my office is relocated, and I'm forced to live vicariously through your pictures.

Ack -- shrinking cubicles are no good!  That said, I've been programming TopoFusion from a tiny windowless basement in Flagstaff for the last two months.

Zero complaints -- when I emerge from the cave it's in the 70's, and there are tree lined trails rideable from the doorstep!

It really helps when people point this short of issue out.  Another user just recently was confused about the same issue.
