« on: March 30, 2009, 10:50:43 AM »
Hello Im new. I need to know how to determine the area of an irregular piece of land. I draw around the area and need to know how many acres are in it. Thank You

Use the draw tool to outline the area you need.  Right click and do 'save as...' to save out a GPX file.

Now go back to the "hand" tool mode and right click on the line you drew.  There's an option to 'compute area.'

Hope that helps.

A way of chopping up the earth and defining separate coordinate systems:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Transverse_Mercator_coordinate_system

There's a good map on that page that shows the zones for the US.
