Downloading color aerial to Garmin 450
« on: September 20, 2010, 08:09:54 AM »
Hi,

SLOOWWLLY learning here. Have finally been able to download topos to my Oregon, but am unable to download the color aerials. I have tried tiled and untiled. I have tried changing the tiled for specific map type from topo 4M to Color, but they always download as the standard topo.

Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks,

EDIT: Huh, I guess I just needed to post the question and it would magically work! Seems that it looks like the standard topo on my Oregon at first, but gradually showed the color aerial I was after!

However, I would like to know what settings on the Export View drop-down will give me the best resolution for these aerials, any tips?

Thanks again!

Sometimes asking the question brings the answer... :)

Is it possible you have uploaded both topos and color aerials to the unit and they are overlapping?  You may need to adjust the 'draw order' parameter if you want to have overlapping maps.

Color 0.003 is the finest resolution, and will also use up the most tiles.

Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks Scott. As for the draw order, I don't know how to use that feature to layer maps. I assume you assign larger numbers for layers you want to appear at higher zoom setting, maybe?

Yep, it's either one way or the other (lower numbers higher).  Can't remember at the moment, but that's how it works.
