Garmin eTrex Database Error
« on: February 26, 2009, 12:18:27 PM »
I am trying to upload a track as a route to my eTrex Vista Hcx. I reduce the points to 100 (actually the number of points shows 196 when I am done with the reduction in the log window). Anyhow, when I go to upload as a route, Topofusion says Transfer Complete, but my eTrex beeps and reads "Database Error."

I cleared my track memory and route memory to ensure this wasn't the problem. Could it have something to do with the fact that my coordinate system is set to UTM on my unit (set the same with Topofusion).

Anybody else had this issue?

(The unreduced track is attached)

Hmm.  Thanks for including the track.  I'll take a look now.

I get the same thing on my Vista - database error.

I'll keep looking, but in the meantime have you considered just using a saved track?  I rarely use a route to follow trails since the detail is lower and the beeping and such doesn't really help.

BTW, it shows 196 points because there are 100 track points (as you simplified to) and 96 waypoints.

Thanks. That is what I though as far as the points go.

That is a good point with respect to the saved track. That is what I have been doing. It just is a little easier I find to activate a route than sift through tracks to get them to show. Don't know why.

I got the track off Geoladders. I had the same issue with a prior track I saved to. Maybe the issue has something to do with Geoladders .gpx tracks?

Actually it should be easier to use saved tracks.  They show up by default on the map, ready to follow.  So there's no need to select and activate them.

Not sure why the upload as route isn't working on the Vista.  I'll get it fixed for the next version.
