Hello, I just started using Topofusion Pro on Windows 7 Starter Edition. When I do a batch download, sometimes it works, but often it seems to get to 98% then just sit there, and topofusion becomes unresponsive. I am only downloading 4M and 16M us topos, and elevation. Is this a known problem? Is there some way to get around this issue? I need to download a large region. I do know how large the downloads are, and how long they should take with my connection, and have waited hours for downloads that should complete in 20 minutes.

Thanks! The program is awesome!

Hi,

Sorry about the delayed response -- I was out bikepacking on the Arizona Trail over the weekend.

This is not a known problem, no.  Most likely it indicates a problem with one of the servers.  At the moment I am having trouble getting tiles from Terraserver (topos).  The Batch download tool will not finish until it downloads every tile.

However, it should give an error message if it has enough repeated failures from a server.  Are you not seeing those?

Thanks for the response. I wish I was bikepacking in AZ! I'm still waiting for the snow to melt in Alaska.

I don't get an error message. It just sits there at 98% and seems to eventually start consuming the CPU. I've let it sit for a over an hour at 98%, so I don't think it is hitting your retry failure count. When I hit cancel, it either doesn't respond and I have to kill the program, or if I wait long enough (many minutes) it may eventually cancel. I've been trying to download topo maps for the Inside Passage, and it is pretty easy for me to repeat if I select a region between Juneau and Ketchikan.

Now that I know it is failing to get tiles I can just try to cancel it when it first stops at 98%, when it is still responsive, and manually download that section.

I thought of something else.  Can you send me a GPX file for an example box you are trying to download (just use the pencil tool to roughly draw a box) ?

I have a hunch that something else might be going on.

Here is a sample gpx. I also noticed that when it gets to 98% the time remaining field changes to 'est time left = No time data' if that provides another clue.

Thanks.  I did a batch using that box and it did finish for me.  It took 2.5 hours, though.  It did have trouble contacting terraserver a couple times, but continued on after waiting the 60 seconds.  Normally I think it would be much faster, but Terraserver does seem to be a little flakey today.

I did Topo 4M and 16M, as well as elevation.

I thought there might be some missing tiles in there that were messing things up (due to a recent change in how topofusion deals with the tiles in non-batch situations) but it appears that isn't it.

Just to make sure, are you using v3.971 (the latest) ?

I already had most of these tiles, so it took about 20 minutes to get to 98%, then it just sat there. Maybe if I left it for 2.5 hours it would have completed, but after a while the application becomes unresponsive, and I don't know if it is retrying. I have done much smaller areas and had the same issue. I'm guessing it is issues with the server as you said, but the application doesn't always seem to recover. My problem is that I need to know I have all the tiles because I will be using it offline. It would be nice to have a way to see what tiles are there.

Yes, I am running 3.971.

Thanks for your help!
