OpenCycleMap tiles are slooooowwwww
« on: September 02, 2010, 03:47:30 PM »
Been playing with some of the new maps. I really like the OpenCycleMap set of a combo between OpenStreetMap and topos. My issue is the loading of the tiles. OpenStreetMap, MyTopo, etc all seem to load at about the same rate, but OpenCycleMap is loading about five to six times slower. I'm talking about when the zoom level gets lower than 1:50. Seems to get worse the more you zoom in too. It looks like both OCM and OSM are from the same servers. Any reason why the discrepancy on loading times??

Thanks!

OCM is based on OSM data, but comes from a different server.  I am pretty sure that the lower level tiles are actually being rendered when you request them.  That means you are probably the first one to request them in that area!  Once they are generated once, they should be faster, so it does vary.

Ok, I was afraid that might be the case. Thanks for the quick response.
