Import TIF (with TFW files) raster maps
« on: June 22, 2009, 04:40:43 AM »
HI!

Is there a way to to do it without calibration? I have raster topo maps and I would like to import them. I can change projection to UTM.

Regards,
Bostjan

Unfortunately not at this time -- TF can't read .TFW calibration files (nor can it read TIFF files).  Hopefully in the future.

Thnx for quick reply. I will do manualy.

What is recomended size for raster maps in pixels?

And what do you recomend: to create waypoints in GPX format in coorners of raster and thena calibrate to them..

Bosti

You should be able to go up to 4000x4000 (some systems even 8000x8000) for the raster maps.  They will be a little slow to load, but even if you split it up you still have to load them.  Personally I'd go for large ones covering as much area as you can.

Yeah, waypoints are a good way to get them calibrated.  Doesn't need to be corners -- any landmarks should work.

Hi,

Unfortunately not at this time -- TF can't read .TFW calibration files (nor can it read TIFF files).  Hopefully in the future.

Just thought I would revisit this topic to see if there are any updates. How about other calibrated map formats such as OziExplorer .MAP files, .ECW, or I think JPEG2000 is supposed to support Geo metadata.

Outside the USA where there is nothing but LandSat imagery, it can be pretty darn hard to calibrate a map. ;-)  Even being able to select a point on the map and typing in the Lat Lon by hand would be nice.

Thanks for your work.

Robert

Thanks for bumping this up.  I do intend to add some more calibrated map types to TF.  Really need better support outside of the US.

If you want to calibrate by Lat/Lon I suggest just adding a waypoint at those coordinates, then calibrating based on that.  That's usually what I do.
