Someway to run in Linux
« on: February 11, 2008, 08:30:28 AM »
I've been using Topofusion Pro for a couple of years now.  I am also in the process of switching to Linux.

Topofusion is the one application that is keeping me dual booting into XP.  Hence this feature request.

Some ideas:

1)  Make a command line option to have Topofusion NOT use directx.  Without directx, Topofusion could be run in an XP emulator within Linux.  I'd prefer this.

2)  Make Topofusion Wine compatible.  A quick search showed that   earlier version did not run in wine.  I'll be looking into the current version soon.  Given that it requires directx9, I'm not hopeful.

3)  A Linux port.

cheers,

Sam

Someway to run in Linux

Sam,

We have a user who has had some success getting TF to run on WINE, and he is still working on it.

There may be a couple minor mods to the code we could make (and we're happy to make them) to get it rolling.

If you want to get in touch with this user (he has also signed up as the new maintainer of the TF winehq page) send us an email and I'll get you in touch.

As for #3, I have ported most of the core code, for research purposes, but unfortunately there's no UI since that's all in VB.  Rolling a new UI would be quite a project, though not impossible.  We'll see how WINE goes first.

Thanks for the interest.

Have you thought about using Mono? It has VB support built in, and could be a much easier port for you all. I've never tried it before, but it maybe worth looking into.
