Terraserver (MSRMaps) shutting down May 1st
« on: April 24, 2012, 03:33:33 PM »

Terraserver gives TopoFusion its base "topo" and B/W Aerial tilesets.  After May 1, copies of TopoFusion will no longer be able to pull new tiles for either of these tilesets.  Might be time to do some batch downloading!

Here is the official announcement:

Fortunately we still have great tilesets like MyTopo, Open Cycle Map, Color Aerials, Open Aerial, Canadian Topo's, etc.

We'll have a new release out shortly with a replacement topo server.  Tileset = US Topo.  Thanks for the patience folks as we transition to a new server!

will we ever have the black and white aerials back or are they lost forever? These are what I use the most in survey work,I will also miss the topos too. Will the new ones be USGS quality? My Topo is nice but the maps are not USGS par.If there is anything i can do to help give me directions and I will.I just found out about this and it's too late to do much batch loading now considering i have to work tomorrow and cannot stay up all night.let me know what i can do to help seriously if you need downloading done and DVD's sent to you I will be glad to help only where can i download black and whites and topos once terraserver goes down?Google earth has black n whites in their historical imagery but they don't have topos.

I can download aerilas from here for free you just have to pay to print them.I can download all these you need if you can use them to replace the black and whites. They don't seem to get as good resolution as terraserver was providing though.

It's possible that the USGS server has historical aerials on it.  It does have historical topo's.  I can have a look.  But yes, the current/old server is going away, so we will no longer have access to those tiles.

The new topo's (also from USGS) are the same scans as the current 'topo' layer from everything I have seen.  Only downside is that there are a few gaps in coverage (such as the Tucson Mountains, where I live!).

It's May 1st and the server is still up, so if you wanted the B/W tiles or old Topo's, keep downloading!  (And don't download the new version -- it has downloading disabled for the old server).
