TopoFusion Pro / Re: Can all "Open" caches expire on demand?
« on: September 30, 2011, 06:41:41 AM »
Just thought I would bump this since in 4.22 still only the Openstreetmap tiles are dumped from the cache. I think it may be a good idea to be able to dump all the "Open" tiles, except aerial.

Thanks and jama rek,

Enjoying the new Open Cycle Map and MapQuest OSM layers.

To celebrate  ;) I decided to expire my Open Street Map tiles (it had been a while). I noticed that the two new Open layers didn't expire and don't have corresponding buttons.

Will you eventually have a way to expire all the Open layers? Individually or collectively?

Open Cycle Map doesn't seem to update as often as the others do, but I think the MapQuest layer should have an option to expire the map tile cache, like the current one for Open Street Map.

Maybe one button with check mark options for the specific tile sets you want to expire.

Thanks for your hard work.

Feature Requests / More maps ... ?

First off, I am not in the US and consequently don't use those map tiles Topofusion offers, so I am not sure how these map tiles would compare. But with OSM tiles now available in Topofusion, I thought I would throw out this information in case you find a use for it.

MapQuest offers open aerial tiles in a similar format to their MapQuest OSM tiles. See the last section of this post:
http://devblog.mapquest.com/2011/01/26/open-guidancejavascript-sdkaerial-tiles-yes-please/

There are other "open" services they offer, too.

Safe rides,

Just wanted to say thanks for the function to expire all the OpenStreetMap maps. :)

I was getting quite a melange of tiles there. Now everything is hunky-dory again.

Thanks again and happy lunar new year.

Hi Scott,

The idea of just reloading tiles within a drawn box sounds like a good one, especially considering some areas rarely get updated very often.

However I still think it would be a good idea to be able to dump (clear all tiles) the entire cache. This would be useful in an area where there may be several people updating the OSM data. Also, after several bounded reloads, you might end up with quite a patch work of tiles, so the dump could be a good way to "level" the map again.

I agree that an expiration date might be problematic. If it could be set by the user, though, for some specific time period (or never) it might be OK.

Whatever you decide, I'm sure things will work out. Until the fix is implemented, though, is there currently a way to dump just a particular mapset?

Thanks again. Jama rek,

Robert

TopoFusion Pro / Openstreetmap tile cache expiration?
« on: August 22, 2010, 04:01:08 AM »
Being outside the USA, I am grateful that Openstreetmap tiles have finally made it into TopoFusion. I do have a question, though.

Seeing as Openstreetmap is always a "work-in-progress", the newest version of the tiles would of course be the best to have displayed in TopoFusion. Right now the tiles do cache, but is there a way to dump the OSM tile cache so one can have a newer set of tiles?

Not having the tile cache expire could actually be problematic. For instance, in one session you view the OSM tiles to a certain distance from a center point. On a subsequent session, you extend your viewing further out from the same center point. If the OSM data had been changed in the mean time, roads on the tiles pulled on the second session might not match those from tiles pulled and cached on the first session.

I was just wondering if you have thought about whether or not (and for how long) to cache OSM tiles?

Thanks for the great program.

Feature Requests / KMZ to User maps
« on: February 13, 2010, 02:53:11 AM »
Didn't see this in a quick search, but might have missed it. This is just a thought ...

The exporting of TopoFusion imagery to a Garmin custom map is certainly useful to have, but how about going the other way, also.

If you already have a kmz file with raster imagery, it would be really useful if you could load it up as a user map in TopoFusion. (Again, especially for us non-western hemisphere folk.)

There is already a wealth of kmz data available around the Internet, and we can already load vector data from kmz files, so what do you think? Could this be do-able?

Thanks for the program and the great support.

TopoFusion Pro / Re: USER WMS
« on: January 14, 2010, 06:31:13 AM »
I actually haven't gotten any errors from that server. At least not any that show up through normal TopoFusion use.

But you are right, it can be rather slow and finicky. I have had a couple of times where single tiles will not load no mater how many times I left-click to reload them. They only finally showed up after I selected and did a batch download of them.

And always looking forward to more features. :-)

Safe rides and jama rek,

Hi Scott,

Any progress on the "easy method" of adding WMS servers?

Here I was about to write a message in frustration about trying to get this WMS server to work:
http://geoweb.hft-stuttgart.de/opendtm.html
but then I couldn't leave it undone and kept plugging away. I finally got some progress. Though I am still not sure I am getting all I can. Do I need to add all the contour layers on one server request? Or should each layer have its own WMS and request?

Here is what I am using now:
Server:    geoweb.hft-stuttgart.de
Request:  /cgi-bin/mapserv?map=/var/www/SRTM/test.map&SERVICE=WMS&VERSION=1.1.1&REQUEST=GetMap&SRS=epsg:4326&LAYERS=Contourlinien10&Contourlinien50&Contourlinien100&STYLES=&FORMAT=image/jpeg&TRANSPARENT=FALSE

But I am not sure I am getting the 50 and/or the 100 meter sets. Could you have a look if you have time and let me know if I am correct?

Anyway, this is only SRTM data, but it could be a boon to those not covered by the current map tile sets. Maybe you can add it to the default map tiles if the server holds up and you think it might be useful.

(Quick edit before I go to sleep. If I change the format to gif and the transparent to true, would I be able to create a merged mapset with the Landsat images I can get here in Korea?)

Sincerely,

Robert

TopoFusion Pro / Re: Import TIF (with TFW files) raster maps
« on: July 25, 2009, 07:39:40 PM »
Hi,

Unfortunately not at this time -- TF can't read .TFW calibration files (nor can it read TIFF files).  Hopefully in the future.

Just thought I would revisit this topic to see if there are any updates. How about other calibrated map formats such as OziExplorer .MAP files, .ECW, or I think JPEG2000 is supposed to support Geo metadata.

Outside the USA where there is nothing but LandSat imagery, it can be pretty darn hard to calibrate a map. ;-)  Even being able to select a point on the map and typing in the Lat Lon by hand would be nice.

Thanks for your work.

After looking around a bit I could only find three organizations that offer WMS of OpenStreetMap data and those services are only for Europe.  :P  I am in Korea.

But I did find a little more info for the OSM tiles. If interested ...

Feature Requests / Re: Various new feature suggestions
« on: April 07, 2009, 06:41:57 AM »
Currently to do this you have to go to google maps or mapquest and find a nearby town. Then you have to search for that town at weather.com or something else ...

Perhaps since the 'Hand' icon has no right-click functionality (unless it is over a track) you could add a right-click menu that would allow users to search out on the Internet. If you make the context menu on that right-click user editable, then people could search their own favorite sites as Topofusion passes the Lat/Lon data through in variables and opens a browser window.

Then for example, the the right-click in an empty area might show:

Search Trailguru.com
Search Panaramio.com
Search Weather.com
Search GoogleMaps for Pubs

Of course it would be up to each user to edit the search URL to make it work with each service. Unless of course you wouldn't mind collecting a selection of valuable searches.

Just an idea.

Feature Requests / Open Street Map ?
« on: April 07, 2009, 06:20:20 AM »
Hi,

For those of us not covered by your fine selection of maps, is there any way you could add the Openstreetmap.org tiles to the list? Sure, they may not always be complete, but hey, a little bit of something may often be better than only the LandSat 0.0625 tiles.

Besides, this could also potentially help with additions and editing of OSM which would then be available to make Topofusion shine even more.

You might try the Openstreetmap.org site for info or possibly Cloudmade.com since they also provide API tools for OSM. Opencyclemap.org tiles would also be great especially since they contain Topo data.

Thanks for your product and continued enhancements to it.

I was just going through past posts and thought I would update this thread with some information.

There is a program that will add pseudo raster maps to some Garmin units. It is still in its infancy, but looks pretty neat. Have a look at Moagu.

If this thread is still active, and geotagging photos with Topo fusion is an on-going process, you can have a look at these pages:

http://code.google.com/p/gpicsync/

Other geocoding software:

Personally I like GeoSetter. But it might be nice to have the geotagging feature in TF, too.

Apparently you were right on the money. Moving the ini out and running the program creates a new ini and the program seems to run fine.

I went into the preferences and pointed the program back to the right directories and everything seems to be there, log and all.

I had a look at the two ini files, but for the life of me I couldn't see what the problem could be. But I guess that is why I am just a user and you are the developer. Have a go at it ...

Thanks for the help and kudos for figuring out the problem with just my description.

OK, I will have a go at moving things around next Monday.

So you know, this a actually a completely Korean Windows XP system. Not converted to Korean from language downloads.

If you want to let me know where the individual downloads are, I could go back to 3.0 and then try installing each version to maybe help you see when the problem was introduced.

I'll try the other stuff first. Is it enough to just move the ini file or should I clean the entire directory and try a clean install? Yeah, I am surprised that i haven't already tried that myself. but I was worried about the data and log, and since I have a working older version at home ....

Hi,

Since I am running the demo I hadn't updated Topofusion Pro for a while. I got online and downloaded the latest version, 3.12, and installed it over 3.0.

When the new version runs the splash screen comes up and I immediately get an error.

"Run-time error - 383"
"Text property is read only"

I am pretty sure nothing in the folder is set to 'read only'.
Clicking the 'OK' on the error box closes the error box and the program continues, but I get this:

http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/3564/topoga7.gif

Rather odd. The drop-down boxes work, but selecting an item doesn't. I click the X to close the program and the window goes away, but the splash screen is still there and the program is still running if I look at the task manager.

Running XP SP2 on a NON-English Windows system (Korean).

Luckily I got the data out of the GPSr before I tried to update the program. Looks like I'll have to stick with 2.97 on the old computer for now. (... the new computer is so much faster.  '<img'>  )

Thanks for any info or help.

Check back in a week or so and we can check if it's fixed or not.

OK, will do. When I download the new version should I wipe the directory and do a clean install, or just install it over this one, to see if things have been fixed?

Thanks for the help and information.

Hello,

I have since added more tracks to the program while using it, but yes, the error still occurs- both when going backward and forward in months.

Since it is still March, the program still only displays the initial month on the log book.

Below are the contents of the  TFLog.csv If you need the actual file, please let me know.

One other note, I don't know if it matters or not, but this is a Hangul(Korean) Windows XP system (i.e. non-English versions of some system files).
(Should have mentioned that earlier, but everything else works fine.)

Thanks .

Robert

I think exporting to a movie is a good idea, too, but that would add a whole other large layer to TF for the bitmap capture. (Wouldn't it?)

Since you have the GPX data, which includes location and usually time, and it is already in a version of xml, how easy would it be to export that data, a static cycler icon, and anything else needed to a kml/kmz file, which is a slightly different version of xml?

Google Earth could then "play" the file using the new time function in the latest version. You could possibly include usermaps as overlays for Google Earth, or just use the images that Google Earth already provides.

[edit] http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/map?form=googleearth
GPS Visualizer can already do much of this, though not time codes and animation I believe, but it certainly would be much nicer to have it all come out from one export process from TF.

Sorry, just thinking out loud. '<img'>

Hi,

So you know, this is the demo version of Pro, ver. 3.0 non Beta, (I was just about to go registered, but you went and improved the program on me, so now I'll have to wait a bit to register '<img'>  ).

This is a new install on a new machine (XP Pro SP2). I was testing things out to see what the new version looked like before installing over the previous version on my primary computer. This was not the first transfer from the GPS, but it was the first time I let the program log the track.

When viewing the Log Book, I pressed the '-' to go back a month (I don't know why, there is no data there) and got the error which shuts down the program.

Run-time error '383':
'text' property is read only.

The error also occurs when I click the '+'.  I tried deleting the track from the log and trying everything again, but it repeats.

I am sure this error is not too important, after all only us "not-too-bright" people will try to go forward or backward in the log when they know no data is there, but I thought I should mention it just the same.

Thanks for the great program and I will register as soon as I can.

Sincerely,

Robert
