Feature Requests / Photo Placement by Coord?
« on: October 29, 2006, 04:34:24 PM »
Yes that is what I wanted Thanks! BTW how is the OCX error bug coming right now I can use any of the new versions on my laptop only 2.97 Intergrated maps sounds neat, if I gather it correctly you mean add our own Aerial map for areas? Dont forget to add the Foest GIS info I can REALLY use that stuff. Is there anyway to limit the info to sections? Like Midwest and MIdeast etc so it doesnt show ALL the info on the map at once, only the area we are in?

Thanks

Hello,

Is it possible to add in one of the new versions a feature to allow us to link Photos with a specific Lat/Lon instead of having to use the Track method?

Example would be to take a Picture or Goggle Aerial of an area that may have been heavily logged and then place it at that spot so when I see the area I can bring up a more current Aerial or Photo Image of the area.

I think this would be a good feature since the photos for thr trails are possible.

P.S. Dont forget the Forest name data too. ;-) I could use that GIS info.

Sounds neat, but I would just like to see cashing and if not that atleast MORE visible area that just a small section of 3D terrain, the only way to get more of a view is to zoom out and you dont get the feel of it. I know some programs have continious horizons so it looks like you see a 3d work when viewing the 3dmaps. That would be nice instead of Black edges to nowhere until you move there. lol

Hello,

I found a site that showed a little how to use sdts2 converter and it seems easy to use, but what I would like to know is when I name my DEM file in the program can I name it ANYTHING? Or do I have to stick the the 4 code thing for the final DEM name? Any help from some of you who have done this would be great!

I plan to download ALOT of this DEM files. lol I am just not sure HOW the program will KNOW which DEM to use without specific names?

Thanks!

Feature Requests / Info on Forest locations?

So I have to have another file loaded Before its loaded? Because I couldnt find a feature to have it loaded in the GIS menu? That was something I thought would be nice is a manual assigning of the GIS file to the GIS menu so if you downloaded on another PC you can then tranfer to the laptop and then through the GIS menu have it loaded?

I dont have them loaded in the GIS layer menu so I had to use the lower lefthand box that allows you to pick the GIS files you have, when I activate something like the Large cities or Roads file it Zooms WAY out and then I have to zoom back which takes a while, where as when I have my desktop PC that I download the GIS through the GIS layer menu they appear without zooming out, only when I pick them through the file box.

Did that make sense? lol Not sure if I am describing it right?

BTW can you fix the issue of when I load the Large cities file etc. It Zooms WAY out and then is slow as a snail to zoom back in, is there anyway to have the file load without having it zoom out, sometime I just want to see the city but not have the whole map zoom out to world view then have to zoom back to my location?

Thanks

Beta Testing / TopoFusion Direct3D - 2.98
« on: October 24, 2006, 02:54:42 PM »
Yes the GPSMaster Error.

I dont think its that my laptop cant do D3D, but I could be wrong. The reason I said that is I loaded a game that uses D3D and the game worked Fine. Its a good way to test the D3D software driver part. lol

I hope you figure this out, I will be here to download any tests you wish to use as the beta doesnt work on my laptop.

Ok I found the Latest drivers for sure as it had that file as well as 25-30 in the sys32 folder. Its about 54mb but its the FULL latest download without having to do the Online thing.

Bad news is this, File is there reinstalled DirectX9c latest version and shecked to see if file was there it was after install. I then proceeded to install 2.98

I rebooted the PC and it didnt work Gave me the SAME error message. It must be something else? Is this new setup compatible with ALL intel video setups?

Question are you sure its the latest or an older version we need? Reason I ask is my desktop doesnt have this file and yet I can run the beta fine. But then is a P43.6 and a gs7800gs VC.

I am downloading right now the Directx9C again, I found a link that said the LATEST, it is a larger size so I will load on my laptop and see if it loads that file or works. But again, my laptop isnt internet ready so I have to rely on Full downloads and not active downloads.

I will post back shortly to let you know what happens.

Hi, no 2.97 thats what amazed me. It was just the live tracking section I could move around and click what I wanted but if I tried to enable or diable live tracking it did nothing to get the little guy moving again. I had to exist the software then restart and then activate the live tracking and then it would work as normal. On my 5 hours trip it ddi this about 3-4 times, Later I was just careful to zoom in Slowly and didnt switch between maps too often. I would says its a Live tracking bug.

I cant run 2.98 on my laptop because of the ocx error.

« on: October 23, 2006, 06:07:26 AM »
Thanks it would be good to have the option of using it. :-)

Also is there a way in the section for GIS layers to have to FIND the location on the harddrive? Right now you have to download them to have them activated in that menu, or you have to do it manually in the lower box menu. It would be nice to have a find clocation button so it can be activated in that menu, but when I activate in the menu box It ZOOMS out and loses my place, I would like to be able to activate Large Roads and have it STAY where I am at instead of zoom out to the full USA view, and its slower because of all the roads to zoom back, where as if it stayed Zoomed in it should be affected right?

Anyway Thanks!

Hello,

I was in the field and I found that if I zoomed in to 1 meter too fast or the same with Zooming out there was a 40-50% chance that it would lock up. The little running guy would stay there even though the GPS was still transmitting information. I would have to EXIT the software then RESTART then activate live tracking again. I did try to click off live tracking and then click on but it would still stay frozen. The only thing that worked was exiting the software.

I am only reporting this as I think its some small bug, as it doesnt do it 100% of the time, but when it does its locked on that feature.
I noticed it tended to do it when I zoomed in but again its random as sometimes it didnt do it. But it wasnt the GPS as it had a constant strong signal on a clear day. I use a Standard Etrex GPS.

Great software, I really do love it!

Hello,

I was in the field today and noticed that I didnt have the Names of well known locations in the forest areas. I did download the large cities and all the other downloads, but it didnt contain the names of locations in the forest park areas. Reason I ask about this is WorldWind does have the names of these locations, so it must be available for free right?

If possible on the next Beta can you add the ability to download Names of locations in the Forest Parks, example would be like Eagle Peak, or Aquarius, etc.

Thanks!

But worldwind says sat 7 isnt that 7meter? I noticed when I used there program a while back they had more detail as close up that the sat photos available for download in this software? Just curious if there is something missing that could be new?

Thanks

BTW you video is better than mine. lol I think I have 4-8mb not sure as they only list the old specs and its shared video memory, it must have 3d in the chipset otherwise some of the 3d wouldnt work? who knows. lol

Beta Testing / TopoFusion Direct3D - 2.98
« on: October 20, 2006, 09:57:11 AM »
But everyone doesnt use the newer laptops, especially if you use a field laptop like I do. THE  CF-28 AND 29 are not cheap laptops, but they arent fancy in Video either. lol

I hope they can fix this as the new features are great. My only hope now besides it working is that they ADD 3D terrain info from download instead of having it connect to the internet everytime. :-( 3D feature is useless for me without having the DEM files, and its hard for a new person to do it manually.

Ok This beta works fine on my Home PC 3.2 p4 with 2gb ram and 7800gs VC.

But on my CF-28 Laptop 1ghz with intel onboard Video and 512 Ram it does load up it gives and error on Start. the 2.97 works on the laptop the Beta doesnt.

Error is a problem with the GPSMaster.ocx

« on: October 18, 2006, 02:14:39 AM »
I think a Good PDF manual that can be downloaded and printed would be great, very detailed more detailed than the webpage one. This would help new people like myself when using the software.

I think alot of devolpers forget that new people are totally in the dark on some of the simplest things in their programs, and that Long time users are USED to the program and offer little help in regard to manual specifics.

Anyway, I think its a good and useful Idea as who would know more about the software than those who designed it.

I know that its nice to hear good things about a creation one makes once in a while, so here I go. lol

I wanted to let you know that you have made a wonderful Product, Its user freindly and by what I read under constant improvement. The Customer Support is great, and One time free is right on the mark!

The more I play with your software the MORE impressed I am at all the little things added and thought of for this mapping software! Right now I have submitted a Return for Delorme TOPO because it in NO WAY compares to yours in Features, User Interface, and Aerial Data!

This software you made is obviously by someone who uses his own program, infact there are so many feature I am NOT familar with that shows that ALOT of professional imput has be used and added to this Program.

I for one plan to Share the Website and info on how to purchase this program for everyone I work with, hopefully they will see as I do how much of a Gem this little Program is. All I can say is Thank you, as you made my life easier out in the field with this Program!

Sincererly,

Will the NEW version still work on a Toughbook28 1ghz with 512 ram and 4mb shared video?

One question on the 2.97 that I use I only see 16meter it seemed a little higher than the sat-7 so that is sat-7? I thought it would be like landsat 7meter

« on: October 16, 2006, 12:29:43 AM »
Hello,

Since I bought the software and I am new at it, I was looking through it and noticed that the 3D files are downloaded via internet and NOT stored on the HD of the computer.

I notice the second option of downloading the DEM files and then the converter to convert them to DEMs, but there are no instructions on HOW to use the converter. Bad enough to download EACH area in the county, but then there is a converter that isnt user friendly IMO since its a DOS based program.

What I need to know is there an easier way to get DEMS?

And two how do I use the converter? Sounds like it does only 1 file at a time, I would like something that would convert the whole batch at once without alot of riggamonroe, if you know what I mean? The 3D data will be very helpful in the field and I would hate to lose that feature.

Thanks

Curious, I used that special maping tool feature and zoomed out to landsat 1024, then made a box and clicked OK. Then it said it was downloading, and said something like 0/245965743

Is that number the amount of Megabytes or the amount of map tile being downloaded? Also is it going to download ALL the maps that are available in the box I made or just the ones that are in landsat etc.?

BTW I purchased your software, its just too good not too. lol But I would like an easier massive downloading ability, unfortunatly for me I need almost a full state of data because of my job and the forests.

Thanks

Archived Support / 3D question?
« on: October 15, 2006, 11:56:15 AM »
What I mean is you have a small footprint on downloading maps for 1 meter. It would be nice to be able to Zoom out and yet Still be able to download 1 meter maps. Right now I think the screen allows 20 1 meter quads, There was some other free program that allowed 1meter downloads but you were able to get the big picture so you could download about 40 or so.

I checked that tool you mentioned, I didnt notice it, some of the buttons dont stand out. But again it will only mark what is visible on the screen it wont let me scroll and keep selecting a wider or bigger box to download 50 square miles or so while I sleep. So the feature doesnt really help me, unless I AM using it wrong?

Thanks for the help BTW, its a really nice program much better than Delormes.

Google ticks me off, they dont even offer their maps for offline use, wonderful aerial photos of the forest and I mean detailed color, but what good does it do when you have ot be on the internet. They remind me too much of microsoft and their corporate milking! Shame really as their maps would have been really great as the details they show over all IDAHO is VERY well photod. Just check out clearwater forest area you wont believe the clarity the water you can see through! lol

Archived Support / 3D question?
« on: October 15, 2006, 10:13:23 AM »
Hello,

I am new to this program and after seeing Delorme and this program I prefer this program very much. Its ease of use is VERY much like Google and the 3D feature is VERY nice. One thing I would like to know is HOW to increase the 3D area? as of Now its a small area, I would prefer something like google that has a continuous view?

Also is there anyway to add a colorized feature? I noticed when I do the combo the wooded areas look green which is a nice tough but then they have the overlay, I was wondering if it was possible to have a color feature for this program?

I havent bought the program yet, but am leaning heavy on doing so, my biggest complaint is the download of aerial photos. at 1meter they take forever as there is a small field of view. It would have been great if someone had these files already downloaded then uploaded for all to download if they which by state. I have a large forest area that I must do and there is no way around the long times to download all the maps because of the limited field of view at 1 and 4 meters.

Great program though, much better than Delorme, which I regret paying for now. lol
