Excellent - the centering/highlighting of the entire file was the trick.

It was an easy fix once the problem was found.  Next version should be coming out soon.

Thanks a bunch!

Great-- good to hear.

As usual, finding the source of the problem is apt to be harder than finding the solution.  '<img'>

I still haven't been able to reproduce it, and I've been using the program quite a bit lately.

Can you describe some of your most common operations?  Maybe something will strike a chord.  I'd really like to fix this for the next version.

Thanks.

I'm finding that I can reproduce it here by doing the following:

1. Check the checkbox to select a track from the track list
2. Right click and choose "Center Map on File". The track is highlighted.
2. Right click and choose "Properties"
3. Select the "Track Points" tab. Sometimes need to use the "Refresh" button at bottom here.
4. Double click on any point and map recenters to that point, but the point is not highlighted, or at least is not visible.

If I de-select the track by clicking with track point tool, the individual points (which can't be seen well when the track is highlighted) are clear-- at a tight zoom level such as 4M especially. The map recenters, but no point selected.

I can convert that point to a waypoint and it pops right in where the highlighted point should be displayed.

From this point on, no matter what I do the selected point does not appear. The key seems to be step #2 above re. "Center Map on File". If I don't go this route, it works fine. If I do, the only way to get the point to display is to close/restart TF.

Hope this helps.

FWIW, It seems the problem as described has not been resolved. The track point will disappear when working with a track that is selected (not a color issue as I've tried all combinations).

Only by closing and restarting TF does the selected point re-appear. Not a show-stopper and only mildly irritating but hopefully the info might help with a solution.

>> If I double click on a track point, a small yellow dot appears at the point, but it would be easy to miss on the topo map depending on the background color on the topo at that location. It is there however.

Might a system specific thing of some kind. To be clear, what I saw initially definitely was not a matter of the point being highlighted but not visible due to a color issue. It simply was not there.

Even changing the colors did not help. For some reason, whether it was a coincidence or not, mucking w/ the settings as I described above resulted in things working normally.

Well, I had a rather long response written and ready to post, having tried everything I could think of. Could not get the selected trackpoint to show.

Went back one last time and chose the "Hot/Cold" preset, changed the "Shade Tracks by" from elevation to speed and "Set as Custom".

Even upped the tile cache size.

Closed and restarted-- and lo' and behold, the selected point now shows. I can change the color- -and it takes.

No idea how/why, but it's working and I can get back to work. Whew...

Thanks for the input.

I'll take a look at this - I did notice it once myself recently, but couldn't figure out what caused it or was different.

It's likely a bug that'll be easy to fix.  Thanks for confirming that I'm not crazy.  ;)

BTW, what version are you using?

Ideally the odds of us both being crazy are minimal!

I really needed to show precisely where certain points were and had to resort to converting the selected trackpoint to a waypoint in order to see where they were.

I was using 3.18 but just downloaded/installed 3.2. I'm seeing the same thing-- or not seeing the same thing-- there as well.

Hopefully an easy/quick fix.

Not sure what I may have changed, but I used to be able to click on "Properties" for a certain track, then in the "Track Points" double-click a given point and have the map to recenter on that point and highlight that point.

The map does recenter, but I do not see that point I double-clicked as a highlighted point. No visual indication of which point I double clicked.

What am I missing?

Archived Support / Changing Waypoint Symbol??

Krein,

When you do add graphics, how about linking to a .bmp file that could be edited? NGS Topo! uses this sort of file for 'shapes' etc. and it's easy to edit them to suit.

Larry

I'd 2nd that suggestion-- great idea.

You're not missing anything, TopoFusion is.  We still don't have support for graphical waypoint symbols.  Symbol data is stored, transfered and not lost, but there are no graphics for the symbols.

Hopefully soon.

Archived Support / Changing Waypoint Symbol??
« on: March 18, 2007, 12:34:34 PM »
If I understand the help correctly:

Quote
Using the select point tool you can right click on Waypoints to get Waypoint menu that allows you to edit a waypoints attributes.

it seems one should be able to select the symbol they want to use for any given waypoint. However this is not working for me. Am I missing something?

For example, I'd like waypoints that represent a town to appear with a certain symbol, those that represent  geographical landmarks another.

Archived Support / What does "point restart" do?
« on: September 07, 2006, 05:54:55 AM »
Just starting to take a look at the new release. Slick...

Perhaps there's a way to do what I want, but I haven't figured it out.

We do aerial photography and use TF to locate position points by matching GPS track points with digital image timestamp information.

Often I'll look at the full .gpx track file, then locate a point on the track points tab in the track properties. After locating this point, what I want to do is to use the track playback function to start playing the track from that point.

But when I'm viewing the track profile in playback mode, "Begin Playback" always goes back to the beginning of the track. I can use the slider at bottom to manually go to a point, but again, "Begin Playback" wont' start playing back from that point-- it just goes back to the start.

I thought perhaps "point restart" might be what I've been looking for, but... ? Is there any way to begin playback at a point on the track you select manually??

User maps would be a great option. We do aerial photography and could definitely make use of this.

Another aerial photographer, Topofusion user here who would love to see a custom map feature!

Just got my 60 csx today and after a bit of early testing, TopoFusion simply does not see it...

OK--this is definitely a bug (others have reported it, but we have yet to see a screen shot of what "garbled" means).

Thanks for reporting it!

Archived - Feedback and Comments / HTML ImageMap feature

Hi Krein,
Any quick and dirty solutions?
Larry

Would you settle for slow and dirty??  '<img'>

I encountered the same thing when HTMLizing some aerial shots. Some areas were shot "low and slow" and many shots were taken, while others were spread out more. But the total area of the track was very large so where the images taken were bunched up... well, you know the story there.

One thing I did was to create multiple views-- close up where there were many photos, and farther out where there was more room to show the icons.

Then you can use the main map as a clickable hot-spot to zoom in on the area you want (your zoomed in map with more detail).

Another option would be make two identical maps-- one with and one without the icons. Overlay them on layers in an editor such as Photoshop, then build your own "callouts" using the underlying image with the icons as a guide. Then hide that layer and use your hand crafted map for display.

FYI, it appears that when I generate an HTML Image Map, the resulting html code as a mismatched heading tag:

<h2 align="center">FileName.gpx</h3>

Obviously the tags should be matched as in:

<h2 align="center">FileName.gpx</h2>

Archived Support / Compliment; question: google maps support?
« on: June 06, 2005, 07:47:25 AM »
Hi Nav-

Fun, ain't it? There are numerous programs that will analyze track logs and many of them have features similar to TopoFusion. I own a few, such as Mapsource, Ozi, etc.

However you made a great find with TF as their overall system-- to myself at least-- is much cleaner and easier to use than most.

I do see on their list of anticipated additions for future development (http://topofusion.com/future.php):

>>Ability to display and calibrate user maps.

One of our main uses is to organize our aerial photo shoots. Works great.

Are you using the Google keyhole pro system of maps? I've downloaded their eval but since it expires in 7 days haven't installed it yet, not having enough time at present to do much testing.

Check under the [Window] drop-down.

Should see scale, and when you click on it, you should see a "___" (fill in the blank).

Yep, I see it now-- thanks.

Hah, you're right that we forgot a plane!  I recently noticed that after I finally got my first aerial tracklog from a Cessna 4 seater.  We did some recon on a troublesome mountain range known as the Superstitions.  We were trying to find a passable route for us to bicycle through (i.e. carry our bikes through).  It was pretty cool to use the show 3D tracks feature to see the elevations we were circling at.

If you've got a good icon to use for the plane, please send it (or let me know where it is).

I'm sure you realize there's quite an irony in there somewhere-- using a plane to scout out a bike path?! '<img'>

The colored elevation is indeed cool when viewing aerial tracks.

While it's easy to figure out, I haven't see an actual legend that shows which color corresponds to what altitude range?

I did a couple of quick searches for a plane icon of some kind-- thinking it would be easy-- but didn't really come up with anything much.

If you happen to have, or know someone who has a CorelDraw CD, there's a lot of plane clipart images there that I expect could be a good starting point. Just a thought...

If the gps gets confused (foliage causing blackouts or tall bulidings causing blackouts and ghost signals) you could end up with errant track points. Deleting and moving the track points back into reality lets ya keep an accurate track of the track.

Aha-- that makes sense.

Or I suppose one could "tweak" their track log for more deceptive purposes: "Oh yeah, we climbed that cliff. Went right up it-- no problem-- see?!"

If you click on a file in the fileview and right click -> properties -> trackpoints, you can double click on any trackpoint to have the map re-center the view on that point.  It will also select that point.

I discovered this after my original post-- it didn't appear to work that way, but I was looking at a zoomed out view and the point in use was obscured by a clump of camera icons. Great-- it works (now that I know what I'm doing).

A BIG frustration we had with Garmin's Mapsource was that the track point properties window was modal. That is, one could check a box to get any given point to display on the map, but the zoom view was fixed and you had to close the window (and loose the point!) to do anything. The flexibility with TF in this regard is infinitely better than MS.

Hopefully the ability to be able to view a track on a map then click on a given point and get some info about that point-- such as the track Pt# is something that could be incorporated in future versions.

Given the fact that tracks can be sliced/diced and track points moved about, I'm assuming that the initial placement of points is "pure math". If I double click on Pt# 200 for example, that point appears centered and highlighted. However if I move Pt# 200, double clicking that same point finds the Pt# in it's moved position. IOW, there's no real "trackpoint EXIF" going on here, no 2-way link once the point is laid down.

Which brings up another question in the idle curiosity category-- why would anyone want to _move_ a trackpoint? I can see wanting to cut a track or remove points, but move?

One final suggestion: Although sometimes for our own amusement we use, for example, a boat icon as the "User Type" having a boat cruising at 4k feet over a mountain top does look a bit silly. Think about adding a PLANE! '<img'>

Having purchased TF, I'm just beginning to get into the program to support our aerial photography business. I have to say, the feature set for the price is simply amazing. Great job!

My question is about track points. If I use the "Select point" tool to click on a particular track point, is there any way to get any info about that point-- such as what Pt# it is in the overall track?

Ideally one could click on a track point on the map and have that Pt# highlighted in the "Track Points" tab of the track properties window-- or the other way around-- click on a point in the "Track Points" tab and have the point highlighted on the map.
