Being able to import precalibrated maps such as PNG with jpr would be great!

TopoFusion Pro / Re: Backup of User Map Calibration Data?
« on: November 22, 2011, 06:15:26 AM »
Thanks for reply.

 I am glad to know I have the calibration points correct. I can't check now but I believe the datum of the image is WGS84 or at worst NAD83.

 The OZI calibration does have four points, will Topofusion accept more than 3 points?

  If all else fails, I may try the Topofusion calibration points in OZI and see what results.

  I won't get back to this until next week since I am leaving home this morning to go to my daughter's for the Thanksgiving holiday.

  Thanks for all and enjoy  your Thanksgiving,

TopoFusion Pro / Re: Backup of User Map Calibration Data?

Well, what I thought was a trivial task has gotten nowhere. I presumed that I could take the  locations of OZIEXPLORER  calibration points  latitude, longitude, x pixel, y pixel) and just substitute them in the the TOPOFUSION User Map definition and I would be home free.

After fooling around for a day or so, I have not gotten there.

Below is the TOPOFUSION USER MAP Calibration I have defined for Harriman2007A.jpg. Comments are on each line:

UserEnabled0=0                                   0 or 1 depending on whether the file is enabled or no
UserAlpha0=0                                      0 to 255 determined by the opacity
UserImagex0p0=2839                            X axis coordinate of the first pontl (0 is the leftmost pixel)
UserImagey0p0=398                              Y axis coordinate of the first pointl (0 is the most northern pixel)
UserLat0p0=41.324577                           Latitude of the pixel
UserLon0p0=-73.987617                         Longitude of the pixel
UserImagex0p1=2235                             Corresponding data for the next point
UserImagey0p1=966
UserLat0p1=41.296881
UserLon0p1=-74.02772
UserImagex0p2=311                               Corresponding data for the third point
UserImagey0p2=1629
UserLat0p2=41.265132
UserLon0p2=-74.15438
UserFilename0=C:\topofusion\Harriman2007A.jpg      Location and name of the image.

The image is 3362 by 1629 pixels.

All data shown was copied from the OZI map file for the image.

The resulting USER map is close to the OZI map but is not really good enough. I can generate a better map using the TOPOFUSION techniques.

Am I missing something? Are my assumptions on that the OZI and TOPOFUSION definitions of the pixel location are the same. Is there a projection difference?  The fact that OZI typically uses 3 points makes there calibration better?

If you want, I can send you the same track on the OZIEXPLORER map, on a TOPOFUSION technique map and my attempt so that you can see the differences.

Thanks for the response.

Unfortunately, the only back up I have for the file is from an image backup. I am not sure I can get an individual file out of the image but will try.

Fortunately, I believe I understand the fields required:
  -Latitude and longitude and pixel points, correct?
  -No more than 3 calibration points, right?
I think I can easily hack together something by hand from my OZIEXPLORER calibrations. I might even be able to write a Basic program to convert my OZI calibrations for about 20 files to be TOPOFUSION User Maps.

TopoFusion Pro / Backup of User Map Calibration Data?
« on: November 13, 2011, 04:42:38 PM »
Where are the calibration points of User Maps stored?

I accidentally clobbered the calibration of a User Map while trying to install a new map.

I then looked to see where the User Map was stored  in order to restore the old map and its calibration points from my backup files. However when I looked there, I only found the image file (JPG) but no calibration points.

Can you let me know where the calibration points are stored so that I can restore them.

Thanks,

Bob M

Attached are extracts of 3D images of the same track. Topo3d.jpg is fine, Mtopo3d.jpg is not. Both are fine in 2D.

I downloaded and installed version 4.3.1. The fix for the MYTOPO tiles seems to work fine in the 2D mode. However, it does not work in the 3D mode.

Feature Requests / Re: User Maps and importing from OziExplorer
« on: April 25, 2011, 05:21:26 PM »
I want to second the request that TOPOFUSION give users a method of using an OZIEXPLORER MAP file to generate  TOPOFUSION User Maps.

The application need not convert any OZFX3 or OZFX2 images. If it covered Jpg images it would be good enough. Applications exist to convert the proprietary OZI images to jpd and/or png files.

AS far as an OZI MAP file is concerned, it contains much more information than would be required by TOPOFUSION to calibrate an image. Off the top of my head. all that is required is given in the following few lines:

C:\ \OziExplorer\Maps\SanBernardinoNSF.JPG
1 ,Map Code,
WGS 84,,   0.0000,   0.0000,WGS 84
Reserved 1
Reserved 2
Magnetic Variation,,,E
Map Projection,Latitude/Longitude,PolyCal,No,AutoCalOnly,No,BSBUseWPX,No
Point01,xy, 2768, 2408,in, deg,  34, 9.51582,N, 117,17.54604,W, grid,   ,           ,           ,N
Point02,xy, 2990,  654,in, deg,  34,24.79026,N, 117,15.27162,W, grid,   ,           ,           ,N
Point03,xy, 4730,  445,in, deg,  34,26.62632,N, 116,57.00828,W, grid,   ,           ,           ,N
Point04,xy, 6506, 1944,in, deg,  34,13.60482,N, 116,38.32404,W, grid,   ,           ,           ,N
Pont05,xy,     ,     ,in, deg,    ,        ,N,    ,        ,W, grid,   ,           ,           ,N

The above lines include the image, the datum, the projection and the latitude and longitude of several
points on the image.

I hope TOPFUSION gets moving on this soon,

TopoFusion Pro / Photofusion, No Time data in Tracks?
« on: August 27, 2010, 08:12:16 AM »
When attempting to run PHOTOFUSION, I get the message: "NO TIME DATA IN TRACKS". However when I list the track (GPX) file, I can see the time data. Also when I run the profile replay, I see speed data which clearly requires time data.

All help in finding the problem is appreciated.

Feature Requests / Re: GMAP4
« on: January 07, 2010, 08:38:32 AM »
After looking at a lot of MYTOPO images and TERRASERV  images with TOPOFUSION shading. I have come to the conclusion that the MYTOPO images are not that much better than the shading enhanced TERRASERV images available through TOPOFUSION.

Still, it would be nice to have the MYTOPO images available under TOPOFUSION.

If storing the MYTOPO images is a problem with them. I would have no problem in just getting them on the fly. Incidentally OZIEXPLORER now lets us load GOOGLE EARTH images but stops you from loading them. This works fine.

Keep up the good work,

Feature Requests / GMAP4
« on: January 06, 2010, 12:15:44 PM »
Today, on FreeGeographyTools.com, I found a reference to GMAP4 (www.mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.html).

GMAP4 adds to Google maps by allowing downloads of USGS TOPO MAPS and Canadian TOPO maps from mytopo.com. The TOPO maps are superior to the TERRASERVER maps. I believe the TOPO maps are the  the TOPO maps that MAPTECH used to sell with MAPTECH NAVIGATOR.

 MYTOPO purchased the MAPTECH system from MAPTECH in the last year or so.

Apparently, MYTOPO is giving the maps away free, at least to GMAP4!

The maps ARE better than those on TERRASERVE. I recommend that TOPOFUSION look at the what MYTOPO is giving away and see if it can be included in the TOPOFUSION system.

TopoFusion Pro / Re: Confusion concerning Climbing Analysis
« on: October 18, 2009, 06:52:28 PM »
Thanks for the quick reply which leads to several more questions.

 First, is the preset TOPO USA the Delorme system or the National Geographic system?

  Next, what is the preset Training Center ? What are its characteristics?

  Third, what does the BOX FILTER WIDTH do?

TopoFusion Pro / Confusion concerning Climbing Analysis
« on: October 18, 2009, 05:47:45 AM »
I have some questions concerning the Climbing Analysis routine.

First, if the Presets is set to Straight Dem, what are the differences between the various DEM sources:
    -Use local Dem files, if available
    -Download/cache
    -Download/cache, force SRTM ?

I get significant differences in elevation gain depending on which source I choose. Is there a recommended choice?

Second, I understand that the first 3 selections of DEM interpolation methods are different mathematical interpolation techniques. However, what does the 4th technique, "From loaded tracks", imply?

Thanks for a great product,

Feature Requests / Ability to Load Google Maps and use Google Earth
« on: August 05, 2009, 12:08:39 PM »
I know this topic has been brought up previously.

But check out OZIEXPLORER. Their latest release permits you to use Google Earth  and Google Maps.
(I don't know why but the Google Maps view does not include the TERRAIN VIEW).

I presume they are doing something legal within the Google constraints on saving Google Earth files on a computer.

Check it out, it looks good.

Archived Support / How often to pick up trackpoints?
« on: December 04, 2006, 06:02:29 AM »
Thanks for quick reply.

 I understand why picking up trackpoints at a smaller interval will increase track length (fractals, etc).

 Using both the Magellan 0.01 mi setting and the Garmin high precision setting overstate guide book mileages on a hike which is also understandable, (e.g. guide book distances set with chain).

 I know nothing about the Garmin "automatic" setting but Magellan has one too. On our next hike, I will set my Magellan to "automatic" and ask my friend to set his Garmin to automatic. We can then check to see how close the results are then.

 Thanks again.

Archived Support / How often to pick up trackpoints?
« on: December 02, 2006, 07:37:29 PM »
I have a couple of questions not about TOPOFUSION but about a topic you probably know a lot about..

    But first, the problem. I use a Magellan GPS most other people I know have Garmin GPS receivers.

    Typically when I hike with them , we get a difference of about 10% in the length of the hike.

    I have investigated the reason for the difference and believe I know what causes it. On my Magellan SPORTRAK, I pick up trackpoints every 0.01 miles. Looking at the trackpoints they are between 50 and 56 feet apart which makes sense. I looked at trackpoints picked up by a GARMIN recently and they were from 2 to 15 feet apart!

    The 0.01 mile setting on the Magellan is the lowest you can set. I am not sure how low the GARMIN receivers can be set. I do have the impression that GARMIN permits you to set the trackpoint frequency based on both distance and/or time.

    It is clear that the hike will be reported longer the more frequently trackpoints are picked up. The questions I have is:
    How often should track points be picked up to get reasonable accuracy?
    If you can answer that question, do you have a physical or mathematical basis for your answer?

    All info is appreciated.

Is there an easy way to edit a TOPOFUSION track saved as a *.GPX file?

 I needed to delete several trackpoints from a track. I found no way to do it in TOPOFUSION. I used GPSBABEL to convert the *.GPX file to an OZI  *.plt file. Using OZI, I deleted the bad trackpoints and then using GPS BABEL reconverted the*.plt file to a *.GPX file.

 It there a simpler way to do this? I would like to be able to select the trackpoints on the TOPOFUSION display and them directly delete them.

 All comments are appreciated.
