Yes, it just disappears without any notice. Really makes you get serious about saving your files often.

Archived Support / downloading maps to use while offline
« on: May 23, 2005, 07:38:16 AM »
I am going to be away from reliable internet access for the next few months and need to download photos and topomaps for about 4-6 counties to copy to a cd for use on my laptop.
Determining how to download to a file and move to a cd is not a problem, however I cannot get the computer to accept more than about 100 megs before it starts to copy over the previous maps.
I have about 50gigs available on my hard drive and have the options menu set to use up to 50% of the available memory, yet it shows in this menue that I only have 150 megs available.
What am I doing wrong?, do I need to adjust something else?

I have been getting the same erratic crash results on my new desktop where I upgraded topofusion. For the first few days it shut down every few minutes, now after a few months it shuts down much less frequently(however I have been doing most of my topofusion work lately on my laptop which I decided not to upgrade to the new 2.5 topofusion)

Let me know when you figure it out, by the way, topofusion is still the best program I have used for getting quick maps and editing them without much hassle. THANK YOU VERY MUCH, keep up the good work.

Maarten,
I've had good results using a program called gpsutility for converting, however I have never used ng so I am not sure if it will work for it but you should try thier demo and see if it works.

Archived Support / garmin 12 map uploading problem

Krein,
I just downloaded gps utility and it seems to be working with it, however it is requiring that I shorten all of my filenames to 8 characters.  Other than that I have not tried it with any other programs.

Archived - Feedback and Comments / TrackPoint editing.
« on: May 05, 2004, 07:20:09 AM »
I think that this feature would also have many other important uses other than combining tracks.
*Create list of wpts and stats for reports
*Ability to edit groups of wpt names easily without having to open individual dialog boxes.
*Ability to easily combine and edit sets of waypoints from different files, times etc.

Especially if we could easily move data both directions to and from a spreadsheet.

Thanks
Bob

Quote (Krein @ May 04 2004,6:57)

Waypoints -- Yes, I think there is a bug with the older Garmin units.  It will be difficult for us to test since we no longer have an older unit.  But we will take a look and hopefully fix it for the next beta.

Tracks -- what do you mean by the last part?  Is it always a set number of points that gets download (ie the last 250) or?  Can you quantify what exactly is being downloaded somehow?
* on a 400mile trip it seems to download the whole track, yet when I save it it only saves about the last 10 miles.

Tracks, as far as we know, are still working.

Bob,

Have you tried downloading waypoints from your GPS 12?
*yes, and at first I thought they were downloading well until I realized that the longitude was somewhere in Siberia instead of Wisconsin.

I need to know if that works or not for you.  Thanks.

Also you are using "old garmin" setting, right?
* I've tried the old and the new.

I am trying to load waypoints into a garmin 12map gps and every time I try to upload it starts beeping and telling me that the waypoints are invalid.
It will upload tracks however it only downloads the end part of each track.
Any suggestions?

Archived - Feedback and Comments / GREAT PROGRAM!!!!!
« on: April 16, 2004, 12:12:30 AM »
Just wanted to thank you for creating such a useful program, its the best $40 I've spent all year.
The simplicity, and power of this program to access maps and allow me to create maps to upload into my GPS's is tremendous.  I also like the fact that it allows my Magellan and Garmin to communicate with each other.
Within days of purchase, this program has become one of my most used programs.

Thanks
Bob

Archived Support / acreage calculation
« on: February 27, 2004, 10:56:17 PM »
In the features list it states that you can use a track drawn around a property to calculate the area within the area.  I cant seem to get it to do this and cannot find any mention of this in the help area.
Any tips?

Archived Support / loading a utm or lat/long file
« on: February 27, 2004, 10:53:24 PM »
I am having problems loading a list of coordinates which were sent to me from a client.
First, I converted them from an excell file to a text file like the example in the help area yet I cannot get them to load correctly.
the file that is set up with lat/long does not seem to have a place to load when I go to "open a file",
and the file that is set up with utm coordinates will load the waypoints but it thinks that they are a track rather than a set of waypoints. when i go to display this set of utms from norhern minnesota they show up as a line stretching from quebec to bc.
Can you help me?
