Tape measure
« on: May 19, 2008, 09:33:36 AM »
Was wondering how hard it would be to make a tape measure feature. Something like google earth has. Plus maybe a polygon tool. What Im trying to use it for is mapping food plots on the map. So I can figure out acreage.  Just a feature I would like to see if it is feasible enough for you guys at topofusion. Im not expecting it to be done just a suggestion. If it was done that would be a added bonus lol '<img'>

I'll have to check what the tape measure does in GE, but you can use the draw (pencil) tool in TF to measure distance, either straightline or along a polyline.

Further, if you draw a ~polygon with it you can then save it out to a GPX file, right click on the track and do "compute area."  This could be made more obvious, but the functionality is there.

The only thing you can't do is shade a polygon.

Hope that helps.

Alright thanks Scott didn't realize the pencil tool measured distances. I always could import a picture of the shape of polygon I wanted then position it as well through the add user map feature.
