I know there is already a feature request for custom waypoint icons. The standard solution is to change the symbols bmp.
It would be better if it could be true custom icons with custom names, that way my resulting .gpx file could have "MyIcon" as the type, instead of re-purposing a standard icon. I am re-using my .gpx files in other apps that need to real waypoint type.
