v3.81 Beta - Batch Downloading
« on: July 25, 2009, 12:02:23 PM »
Beta 3.81 is out and the biggest changes happened in the Batch Download tool, which has received a major overhaul.

The new tool is much more user friendly, with better options and much more feedback as to how things are proceeding, how long it's going to take, etc.  I'm pretty happy with it, but please let us know if you see any odd behavior.

Another nagging issue has been that exported maps with profiles have obscured part of the map.  Finally took care of that one, too.

Download in the usual place:

Hey Scott,

The batch downloading is *extra cool*.    :) It's working fine so far! It's particularly nice because the color tiles, which I'm finding are really useful, are slow to download. No worries now. :-)

One hint for Vista users who are planing big downloads: it looks like you have to temporarily set the power options to always on; otherwise the download gets interrupted when sleep mode starts. But it will resume when the computer wakes up if you don't want to bother.

Edited to add this: now that my large download is finished, I'm amazed at how smoothly the color tiles zoom in. There is no dectable jump between tile resolutions. I would not have noticed this before, because tiles were always being downloaded. This is really impressive!

Larry,

Thanks a lot for the feedback.  Glad to know it's working well for you.  I agree that batch downloads for color aerials is very cool.  The AZ server can be pretty slow at times, too, but the imagery is excellent and in many cases better than Google Earth/Maps!

BTW, I released v3.82 today with some changes, many of which are cosmetic:

Quote
3.82 - [7/26/09]  (Beta)

Added menu shortcuts for Mouse Tool modes:
Edit menu has: Edit Points, Edit Points (box), Cut Tracks, Merge Tracks
Map Menu: Pan Map, Mark Waypoint, Draw Track
   Analysis Menu: Elevation Profile
Changed "Tile Cache" to "Memory cache size" in Options->Preferences
Enlarged tileset selector in Batch Download Tool
Added "Disk Cache Size = Unlimited" note to Options->Preferences
Added auto "Reply-To:" field to crash reports
Added white background to 'onscreen' messages, also enlarged font

As usual, thanks to the users who made the suggestions for these tweaks.
