Sneak Peak - shaded relief
« on: August 20, 2009, 08:40:42 PM »

I've got automatic shaded relief rolling in TopoFusion!

Same scene, no relief, for comparison:

It'll work in all map modes.  It's not ready for prime time yet, but hopefully a beta will be out in the next week or so.  Need to add toggle, light source and other settings and then work on getting it as fast as humanly possible.

Can you move the sun?
Better yet, can users move the sun?

Looks very nice.

Yes, I have a scroll bar for the angle of the sun available.  From the northwest is the usual standard, but some terrain might call for other angles.

That is awesome.  I was kidding.  I never met a program that let me adjust it before.

The North East thinks the sun rises on it.  And of course, California thinks the sun sets on it.

:)

I'm just having fun with it.  I read a few papers about shaded relief and sometimes it is advantageous to change the 'sun' direction.  I added it just to experiment.  In many cases it makes it hard to read the terrain (to me) if it's not from the northwest.

Still playing with it, but hope to have a beta soon.

Beta w/ shaded relief out now -- took a while to get it how I liked it and also was working on other stuff.

Will post full details and send an email notice out tomorrow likely.
