GPS communication after purchase
« on: September 19, 2005, 11:41:38 AM »
I used the demo program and was quite impressed.  I purchased and updated the program.  Now I find my GPS will not communicate with the program.  All settings have been checked.  I have no problem with another Topo program I am using.

Any ideas?
Thanks
Cliff

Hi,

Sorry about this.  There was a bug introduced in v2.7 in Magellan GPS transfers.  It is now fixed and available in the v2.72 beta:

I'm guessing you had an earlier version (2.6?) for the demo, then when you purchased you got 2.7 with the bug.

That took care of the problem.
I did have an earlier version for the demo and use a Magellan Sport Trak Pro.

Thanks

Greetings,

I just purchased a Magellan Explorist 600 with USB transfer. I am new at this and love TopoFusion. There is no Magellan USB option under GPS options and it will not communicate any other way. My computer does recognize the unit as an external hard drive and I can browse the files. Can TopoFusion import these tracks? Or, what settings do I need to change. I have installed the new 2.72 beta version.
  Thanks for the help,
Dan

Hi,

Sorry, we don't have support for the newer Magellan units (those with USB transfer).  I have not looked into how difficult the protocol is.  It might be a simple add.  I will add it to our 'todo' list.

I doubt TF can open any of the files stored on the unit.  However, there may be a util out there that can convert them into .GPX format.  That might be your best option for now.
