GIS Layer problem
« on: October 03, 2006, 07:42:32 PM »
I just downloaded  the new ver. 2.97 and am very excited about the new GIS layer capability, but I can't get it to work.
When I go to the GIS layers window and click the download button on any one of the GIS layers (with the "show" box checked), I get the error message "Error = -1". When I look in the C:/Topofusion/Tracks/GIS directory, the file names show up but the file size is 0 bytes. Am I doing something wrong???

Thanks!

Does the download finish?  The text box should turn into a progress bar, and you need to wait for it to finish downloading before checking the box to "show."

If you're getting zero length files that means the download isn't finishing.

What about the GIS layers that came pre-downloaded (states and NA cities)?  Do they display correctly or are they also sized zero?

The download never seems to start. When I click the download button, I immediately get the error message. All the preloaded layer files are 0 bytes too. I tried reinstalling the program, and then looking in the GIS directory before I open the GIS window and the pre loaded files are there and intact (3 of them -states, continents and city-small and I can open them as gpx files) but if I click on the download button for any of the preloaded files, I get the error message and the file size becomes 0 bytes instantly. If I click on the download button for the non-preloaded GIS files, the new filename will show up in the GIS directory but with a size of 0 bytes.

My next guess is that you're running some kind of firewall and you need to permit TopoFusion.exe to access www.topofusion.com on port 80.

To download tiles it needs to access terraserver-usa.com, while the GIS layers are hosted on our site.

The download is failing right off the bat.

Thanks for your help and timley support, you have a truley great piece of software. I will keep working with the problem, I think you are right, I use a satellite ISP and sometimes I have quirky connection issues. Meantime, is there a way I could manually download the gpx files so I could still use them?

Thanks!

Yep:

http://www.topofusion.com/GIS/

That'll give you a directory list of all the files.
