Problem dloading tracks in v2.1
« on: January 15, 2005, 09:17:30 AM »
I'm using a etrex Vista w/latest sw upgrade. It works fine in 2.01 but fails in 2.1. I get the error message at the end of the track dload. When I click "Don't Send" (XPHome), TopoFusion quits to the desktop. I've uninstalled 2.1 and re-installed 2.01 and it works fine. I've tried the 2.1 upgrade and the full install. Everything works fine using Maptech Terrain Navigator also.

Any ideas?

Do you have an Vista or a vista color?  That is, serial or USB?

There shouldn't be any problems with serial transfers, while USB does seem to occasionally fail and we are not sure why.  The garmin driver does not behave correctly unfortunately.  Trying the download again usually works with USB.

If it's serial we will investigate it aggressively.

Thanks.

Ok, wow -- I can't imagine why it would work in 2.01 but not 2.1 !!!!

Can you do this: try updating to the latest beta version (2.17) available at:

http://www.topofusion.com/beta.php

(use your same name/code).

Let me know if this still crashes or not.  Thanks.

The pic didn't actually attach. The error read:

Wrong version of GPSMaster.ocx detected, looking for 2.18, but found 2.17...

Oops, that was my fault in building the beta (just made it this morning for someone having trouble with the satellite images).

Now it has 2.18 files and should work.

Sorry about that.

It runs now, but it still crashes when the download is complete.

OK, thanks for trying it.  I can think about what has changed since 2.01 when it was working for you.

Is there anything out of the ordinary about the tracks currently on the unit?  Full tracklog, bogus points, many saved tracks, etc?

If you have a GPX file from version 2.01 that successfully downloaded that would be very helpful for debugging.

Thanks.

There's nothing special going on. No saved tracks, just the active one. I have several tracks from 2.01. I can even get the current one if I reinstall 2.01.

OK, my thought is that it might be the auto adding of tracks to the new logbook.   Have you used the logbook at all?

Have you tried unchecking the "add tracks(s) to logbook" checkbox in 2.18?  I believe that that checkbox actually didn't work in 2.1 -- it always added downloaded tracks anyway.  So it's worth another try in 2.18.

If that does it look for the log file "TFlog.csv" and send it to me if you can, or at least delete it to see if you can get it to work even with the checkbox turned on.

I unchecked the "add tracks..." box but it still crashed. I then moved TFlog.csv to a backup folder and tried it again with no luck. That file date was 1/15/05, probably the last time I dloaded a track in v2.01.

There is only one entry in the log book from 1/8/05. I've never looked in there before either (kinda neat though).

FYI

I tried it on a machine running Win2k, and it downloaded the track ok.

Sorry, it's been a busy week.

I hope to have a test version to send you in the next few days.  I don't know how else to see what's wrong.

Hi,

Can you download the current beta version (still 2.18, but it has more debug information), then give it a try?

When it fails, will you email the resulting TopoFusion.log file to smorris@topofusion.com  ?

Thanks.

Good news... I reinstalled XP and now everything is working great. I don't know what the problem was, but at this point I don't care. Thanks for all the effort in trying to rundown this issue.
