Selected trackpoint does not show
« on: February 03, 2008, 11:09:32 AM »
Not sure what I may have changed, but I used to be able to click on "Properties" for a certain track, then in the "Track Points" double-click a given point and have the map to recenter on that point and highlight that point.

The map does recenter, but I do not see that point I double-clicked as a highlighted point. No visual indication of which point I double clicked.

What am I missing?

I'll take a look at this - I did notice it once myself recently, but couldn't figure out what caused it or was different.

It's likely a bug that'll be easy to fix.  Thanks for confirming that I'm not crazy.  ;)

BTW, what version are you using?

Ideally the odds of us both being crazy are minimal!

I really needed to show precisely where certain points were and had to resort to converting the selected trackpoint to a waypoint in order to see where they were.

I was using 3.18 but just downloaded/installed 3.2. I'm seeing the same thing-- or not seeing the same thing-- there as well.

Hopefully an easy/quick fix.

I haven't been able to reproduce it here.

One thing to double check is that you have a color set for "highlighted track point" in preferences->colors.

Sometimes if TF fails to load or something you can lose colors.  Just one thought.

Otherwise, I'm scratching my head a bit.  You're just opening TF, opening the file properties dialog, perhaps filling the table with the button, then double clicking, right?  Nothing else before that?

Well, I had a rather long response written and ready to post, having tried everything I could think of. Could not get the selected trackpoint to show.

Went back one last time and chose the "Hot/Cold" preset, changed the "Shade Tracks by" from elevation to speed and "Set as Custom".

Even upped the tile cache size.

Closed and restarted-- and lo' and behold, the selected point now shows. I can change the color- -and it takes.

No idea how/why, but it's working and I can get back to work. Whew...

Thanks for the input.

Krein, I just checked this on V 3.21. If I double click on a track point, a small yellow dot appears at the point, but it would be easy to miss on the topo map depending on the background color on the topo at that location. It is there however.

Might a system specific thing of some kind. To be clear, what I saw initially definitely was not a matter of the point being highlighted but not visible due to a color issue. It simply was not there.

Even changing the colors did not help. For some reason, whether it was a coincidence or not, mucking w/ the settings as I described above resulted in things working normally.

FWIW, It seems the problem as described has not been resolved. The track point will disappear when working with a track that is selected (not a color issue as I've tried all combinations).

Only by closing and restarting TF does the selected point re-appear. Not a show-stopper and only mildly irritating but hopefully the info might help with a solution.

I still haven't been able to reproduce it, and I've been using the program quite a bit lately.

Can you describe some of your most common operations?  Maybe something will strike a chord.  I'd really like to fix this for the next version.

Thanks.

Thanks.

I'm finding that I can reproduce it here by doing the following:

1. Check the checkbox to select a track from the track list
2. Right click and choose "Center Map on File". The track is highlighted.
2. Right click and choose "Properties"
3. Select the "Track Points" tab. Sometimes need to use the "Refresh" button at bottom here.
4. Double click on any point and map recenters to that point, but the point is not highlighted, or at least is not visible.

If I de-select the track by clicking with track point tool, the individual points (which can't be seen well when the track is highlighted) are clear-- at a tight zoom level such as 4M especially. The map recenters, but no point selected.

I can convert that point to a waypoint and it pops right in where the highlighted point should be displayed.

From this point on, no matter what I do the selected point does not appear. The key seems to be step #2 above re. "Center Map on File". If I don't go this route, it works fine. If I do, the only way to get the point to display is to close/restart TF.

Hope this helps.

Excellent - the centering/highlighting of the entire file was the trick.

It was an easy fix once the problem was found.  Next version should be coming out soon.

Thanks a bunch!

Great-- good to hear.

As usual, finding the source of the problem is apt to be harder than finding the solution.  '<img'>
