It would be nice to be able to use Windows standard cut-n-paste type stuff when viewing the properties of a GPX file.  Even if just Ctrl-C & Ctrl-V worked, we could create new routes from existing files.  I often like to combine trails to make epic rides.  The date & time data could be ignored, but the coordinates and elevation data would be great!

Have you tried making a network, then putting together trails using the merge tool?

That makes a lot more sense to me than cut and pasting portions of tracks--which you also can do graphically right now using scissors and the merge tool.

That said, standard cut and paste in the properties dialog is not a bad idea, for the long run.  However, since there are other ways (that I think are easier, though I may not be understanding what you're trying to do), we won't make it a priority.

I think that this feature would also have many other important uses other than combining tracks.
*Create list of wpts and stats for reports
*Ability to edit groups of wpt names easily without having to open individual dialog boxes.
*Ability to easily combine and edit sets of waypoints from different files, times etc.

Especially if we could easily move data both directions to and from a spreadsheet.

Thanks
Bob

The gpx format is xml.  MS Excel reads/writes it quite nicely.  Give that a try.

Along these lines, it would be really nice to be able to insert points into a track, and to add tracks to an existing file.  We use Topofusion for pipeline route evaluation.  We pick a route from the topos and photos, then download to a garmin etrex and field check the route.  In the process of route selection we often make changes that require extra points to be added.  I am currently putting in more points than i really need just so i have extras to work with, but this can cause problems if i want to download them as saved tracks, and I exceed the units point limit.  Our engineers love this program, between staff, clients and contractors we have around 15 registered copies.

Hi Mike,

There is a way to insert points into a track.  When you have one point selected, push the 'insert' key to get two new points (one on either side) at the midpoints.

I agree that there needs to be some way to add tracks to a file... instead of the only option being to save to a new file.  This will require a bit of reworking of major parts of the code, but I would like to see it done eventually.

I'm glad to learn a bit about what your company uses TF for.  It's interesting to see the many varied uses out there.  Let us know how else we can help.

Also along the lines of too many points for a saved track... you can use the simplify (right click on a track in the map and choose "Simplify/Spline") function to get it down to what you need--any duplicate or less interesting points will be eliminated first.

Make Network always crashes with some sort of exception the second time I run it during any given TopoFusion session.

What's the Merge tool?

Network bug -- Do you have the latest version of TopoFusion?  This bug was (I thought) resolved with v2.0.  I will see if I can duplicate it.

The merge tool is the profile tool (it's profile/merge).  You can use it to piece together a new route from a network -- "virtual tracks" -- by clicking on each portion in succession.  If the most recently added track is backwards you can push the "v" key, or right click and select "reverse" to reverse it.

I don't see any problem in the network code anymore.  If you can reproduce it (and are using v2.0 or later) please post or send us email.

Thanks.
