PhotoFusion: Praise and a Problem
« on: May 25, 2004, 10:01:05 AM »
PhotoFusion is just what I had hoped to do with my new Nikon D70 digital camera and my new Garmin eTrex Vista GPS.  (Wouldn't it be nice if the Nikon included a GPS and just tagged the picture with the appropriate EXIF infomration about location...   Wait a couple of years.)

In any case, PhotoFusion is just the right thing.  Thanks!

Now, to my problem:  I took my GPS and Camera out for a walk this morning.  When I got back and downloaded the track and the pictures, pointed TopoFusion/PhotoFusion at the pictures, I got the following nice display:

Boy, that was easy -- only problem is that the photos are not in the right place.  To see where they should have been, see:

The pictures and track are:

I am about to take a cruise in the southeast portion of Alaska and am really hoping that I can use this to keep track of my pictures.

Thanks for making a great product and I hope you can help me figure out what is wrong with my example.

Thanks,

PhotoFusion: Praise and a Problem

Thranks for the praise.  Now to the problem.

There are two possible (and easy to fix) sources of error:

1 - check that the time setting on your camera matches your GPS.  Some people take a photo of their GPS on the time screen so that they can set the offset correctly afterwards.

2 - Wrong time zone setting.

It looks like the photos are just off by a few minutes, so I'd check the camera's time.  To fix this one you can use an offset (in addition to time zone) set to whatever the difference in the GPS/camera's clocks is.

If this doesn't fix it, let us know.

Perfect.  You should add a warning about synchronizing clocks to the documentation (if it isn't already there).

Here is the result of the correction (-05:03:30 timezone):

Thanks for a great program.

A suggestion: how about showing the date/time the picture was taken in the thumbnail window?
