Goto Location suggestion
« on: February 13, 2006, 12:23:05 PM »
It would be nice if, when selecting a Goto Location, not only would the map go to that location, but an editable icon would also be placed at that coordinate.  I could then upload the waypoint to the GPS unit if desired.  Right now, when I Goto the coordinate, I can't see really where it is.  I know it's centered somewhere on the map.

Another 'cool thing' would be if we could cut/paste directly out of Google Earth the coordinates EXACTLY as they have them, instead of editing out the leading blank space, and further spacing out the coordinates.

Example:  in Google Earth, a coordinate looks like this:  42°16'37.86"N   (there's really a space before the 42 in Google Earth)

In TF,   this would be the required format:  42° 16' 37.86" N

OK, I'm being pretty picky here, I admit.  And please go easy on me.... I might be doing something wrong!

Thanks.

How about a "goto" button in the "add waypoint" dialog, combined with a menu option to do directly to the add waypoint dialog under goto coordinate?  I think this would make things easier.

As for the coordinates in GE, I'll see if I can make it more robust to spaces in general.  Where are you copying these coordinates from in GE, out of curiousity?

In GE, right-click a My Places link that you've saved, select edit, check Advanced, then Location tab.

Got it.  I fixed goto coordinate and the add waypoint dialog to be more robust to both missing spaces as well as having too many spaces.  It works a lot better now and should work A-OK with pasting from GE.

It's in the current beta version (2.80), if you're a registered user you can download to try it out.  Otherwise we'll be releasing a full version in about a week.

Thanks.
