50 Year

Spent the morning putting tool to earth out by the 50 year trail. We were building two new sections of trail, including a link-in to the old Great Pumpkin race course.

Of course, we’re only building singletrack that most would call ‘sweet’ (read easy). We had a few debates over sections being too hard for the average rider. I thought challenge was a key component of mountain biking? Why does everyone have the right to be able to ride every trail (or at least all new ones)?

But, in my view, any new trail is a good trail. This area of State Trust Land (the 50 year trail) is in danger of being developed. The more trails and the more people we get loving the area, the better.

I noticed that the wholesale destruction is well underway on the south side of Golder Ranch road. The name of this latest and greatest KBHome ™ development is Black Horse Ranch or some crap like that. They must have a list of idiotic names like “saddlebrook”, “heritage highlands”, etc that they choose from randomly whenever they decide to throw up another fine community.

A guy at the trail-work party (who lives in Sutherland valley!!!) says they are putting in 450 new homes at Black Crap Ranch. But wait, this will be a master planned community, where people won’t have to rely on cars to take them to Tucson for shopping, services, etc, right? Oh, wait… 450 houses = 900+ more cars on Oracle every day. In a word, perfect.

Why hasn’t someone said “enough” yet?
