We’re regularly topping 100 degrees these days in Tucson. But that didn’t stop me from rolling out at 3pm, en route to the Friday Sweetwater ride with Paula.
I sought refuge in side trees along the river path. The west wind was there, at 10 mph. Yet I felt top. I’ve struggled with these (easy?) rides out to Paula’s school over the last months. For the first time I felt some measure of strength.
It was a good feeling. Taking a hit from my water bottle was not. It started half full of ice, but before I got to the Santa Cruz river it was in the ‘acid hot’ category.
I could not help but think of the Grand Loop while experiencing the heat of the air and the dessication of the wind.
By the time I helped Paula update her records and tidy up her classroom, the sun was low and the temperatures pretty darn nice.
We enjoyed some wonderful wind aided singletrack surfing, with empty trails and gorgeous light.
Frozen chocolate milks melted into shake form just as we hit the road. We sucked them down as we rolled back into town, sun setting behind our backs and full moon rising as we pedaled through the university.
100 degrees? Ugh. We have had some really nice, mellow weather in Eugene… We would love for you guys to come visit!!!
