Lee’s Report – Willpower

Departing Tucson on busy city streets which gave way to quiet pavement then graded dirt road and finally to a singletrack heading north of Redington Pass. The trail was beautifully constructed and the only trick was avoiding the prickly thistles lining the trail. I was enjoying the trail except a little headache which felt like the headache I get when feeling fatigued. The nice trail eventually dropped into a basin which became still and hot and rugged. I asked Scott to stop for a few minutres so I could rest and see if the headache would release.I layed down and the gnats came out to visit. Scott waited patiently while I tried to recuperate. Finally a gnat went in my ear and I decided the rest was over. Scott pointed out the pass which we needed to summit. That knowledge was just what I needed. (thanks Scott)I knew the task at hand and just set my mind to it. We struggled up the hike a bike trail and after a while we were at the top with a breeze blowing through and the sight of the paved twists of the Catalina highway below.

We have had a very nice respite here at the Barr’s. I have the taste of Salmon and cream cheese on my palate as we prepare to ride north to Gila river.
