Odin and I braved our local “mountain bike” ride on the our cruiser Tandum [sic] today.
To say it was interesting would be an gross understatement. We did better and worse than I thought we would. When I was able to steer the sucker straight, it flew smooth. As soon as the front tire flailed, we were doomed.
Captain made a number of costly mistakes; Stoker had a couple stinkers too. No anger, just laughter. We could not climb trophy hill, or ride down by the guard rail. But other things went surprisingly well for a rigid hunk of junk.
I don’t quite understand the physics (nor have I found a good explanation anywhere), but climbing seems very sluggish, even on the road. Flats, or gradual downhills, of course, are like a dream.
I think with some more practice we made be able to ride the whole thing. I’m scared to take it anywhere else though (Starr Pass). It will probably happen sooner or later.
