Strange result from spline
« on: February 24, 2011, 12:50:59 PM »
I applied spline to a gpx file (looking for a smoother looking profile.)
Carelessly I splined the same file again greatly increasing the number of points.
In the active file list the Climbing Elev. shrank from 650' to 18' yet when the profile tool is applied to the track the Total Climbing is 650'.   Not a big deal but shouldn't the statistics be equal?

It may be that over-splining caused the software to not count a lot of your track as "moving" due to points getting assigned the same time stamp.

Try stripping all timestamps from the track (in File Properties v4.1) and see if the number agrees.

Stripping restored the Climbing Alt., in fact it increased to 680' likely due to the same cause.  :)
thanks.

NB The profile tool also shows increase to 680'.
