I think there is a way to save map tiles for use when internet connection is not available. Can someone please refresh my memory on how to do that. Can I have any control on which tiles are saved, meaning what area etc?
Thanks.

No need to do anything special. Every map you ever download is saved in the TopoFusion map cache!
You can use the "load maps" tool to batch download areas. But be careful not to do too large an area (or disable some tilesets) or it will take too long to download.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know, now of course there is a follow up question.
Is there a way to save this cache on a CD/DVD/USB drive so it can be transported to another computer or just preserved so it won't be inadvertently overwritten?
Thanks

Yes.
It's a small collection of files:
mapindex.dat
maps0.dat
maps1.dat
...
mapsN.dat
Each file is ~650 mb, so it depends on how many maps you have downloaded.
(I'm up to Maps27.dat, for a whopping 16.6 GB of downloaded maps (and TF still runs fast!)
You can change the map directory in options->preferences - so you could always save a snapshot of your map cache out and use it later, or on a different computer.
