Reverse Profile total climb zeroed
« on: August 05, 2013, 05:54:46 PM »
If I use the merge track tool to reverse last segment the total climbing and total descent go to 0ft when this gets merged with another track the total climbing is just that of the track that had no modification BUT the new track has the total distance of the two merged tracks.

Interesting installed on Win 7 Ultimate SP1 32bit and it works correctly.

It happens on 32bit as well.
If I edit a track for instance cut one leg of a loop save it as a new gpx it shows the correct total climbing and decent info yet when I try to reverse the direction it zeros out.

Hi,

Thanks for the post.  Here's what I think is happening.

The track you've got has time data, right?  TopoFusion tries to improve the total elevation gain number by excluding segments that aren't considered "moving".  It can handle simple reverses (it checks for whether time is before or after, between points), but if your file is a merger and has mixes and matches of time and no time data, reversing can goof it up.

Two things to try:

1 - Strip all time data from the file (reversed it doesn't make much sense anyway)
2 - Use the Climbing Analysis dialog -- there is an option to turn off checking for moving time

Hope that helps.

Having said that, I see now that the profile tool didn't have the check for reversed time stamps.  I've fixed that for the next revision -- out very soon.

I'd still recommending stripping time stamps if you're going to do a lot of merging/reversing and want accurate stats.  Time doesn't really start to make much sense at some point.

Thanks for the post!

Thanks Scott.
I was stripping time what seemed to do it was using the Climbing Analysis and turning off checking for moving time. Not sure why that would make a difference if the time data was not there unless it thinks I'm stopped so there is no elevation change.
