saving parts of a track as separate files
« on: July 12, 2008, 01:12:30 PM »
In one area that i ride my mountain bike, there are easy and hard trails. Unfortunately, i left my gps on and recorded a whole mish mash of trails. I know which parts are hard and which are easy when i look at the track on the map. How can I chop up the track into easy and hard parts?

My solution (which may not be the best) is to:
1)use the 'select points' tool to select the parts i dont want (eg the hard parts)
2)right click on the active file in the active file list window and save as 'easy tracks'
3)reload the original full track
4)delete the easy parts
5)save as 'hard track'

Is there a better way?

Sorry about the delay - we have been out traveling by bike and away from computers.

The method you describe is one way to do it.

Another is to use the scissors tool to cut between the "hard" and "easy" parts.  Then use the "merge tracks" tool to click on either the hard or easy section, then right click and choose "save as...".

If the tracks intersect you might try the network tool as well -- that will pre-split the tracks, possibly at the right points you were looking for.

Hope that helps.
