Main Map
« on: December 28, 2010, 05:34:28 PM »
I need some help with the actual area that is in the download. Is it the entire main screen? If I understand this right using untiled you can get a smaller area but what about zoom levels. Is map detail going to be clear/sharp at all zoom levels? I'm mostly interested in USGS 7.5 quads or MyTopo.I recently switched from a Delorme gps and Topo USA8.There you have to specify the zoom range for where your download appears on your gps unit.

Right, you don't specify a zoom range using TopoFusion.  You simply zoom/pan the map to fit everything in the main map that you want to see on your GPS.  You can ignore what maps are being shown in the TF (that is, the zoom level) because you control what you upload in the Export View dialog.  For myTopo it always uploads the highest zoom level.

Just pay attention to the "number of tiles" number to see if you are going over the 100 time Garmin limit.

Hope that helps.

On the main screen I'm showing 9 squares accross the bottom by 5 squares high. When I open the export dialog box and check KMZ to Garmin it says 6 1000 x 1000 grids. What dose that mean,I thought I could load 100 grids at a time. I'm sure its very easy to do but at present I'm very lost.

In the Export View dialog, under the checkbox for "Tiled KMZ for specific map type" there is a bit of text telling you how many 1000x1000 tiles it takes to cover the current view in TopoFusion.  That will change as you zoom in and zoom out.  Try it.

The number of map tiles shown in the main TF window doesn't matter, it only matters what number the dialog is reporting, since you will be exporting the tiles at their native resolution, while TF will shown them at different resolutions (and also kick up to higher zoom levels).

Maybe that makes sense?

So you do not count the squares then? you go by what the dialog box says. In my case the 45 I see is really only 6 as the dialog box says.

Yep, that is correct.  Go by what the dialog box says only.
