Title: Is there any way to apply a correction to all points in a given track?
Post by: derelict on October 21, 2010, 10:13:42 AM
I have often noticed that a track that I record has a constant error across all points in the track.  For example, I might hike along a trail, and when I download my track to Topofusion later, I can see the actual trail on the map, and my track is offset by a few feet.  It would be interesting to be able to apply a correction to all the points in the track, to manually correct for the visible error; maybe something like "move all points 7 feet on bearing 71 degrees" or some such.

Is there any way to try this in TF?  If not, is there any other (preferably free) software that can apply such a correction?

You can't specify a correction by numbers, but the "box select" tool is designed for exactly what you describe.

You can use it to grab all points in your track, or just a portion, then drag them together to correct for the error or offset.  Give it a shot.

Wow, that's pretty cool!!!  Worked perfectly, thanks!!

Same question (or feature request),  different adjustment - The goal would be to adjust all elevations that may be off by a couple hundred feet due to error in calibration of a barometric altimeter.
I realize that elevation values can be overwritten with DEM/Cache values, but I would rather be able to adjust the values that were actually recorded but are off by some consistent value.
Maybe an automated adjustment by selecting a point, determining the correction needed in comparison to the cached data and adjust all other point using that value. That would preserve the integrity of relative elevations  (as recorded)  yet adjust absolute elevations for better accuracy.

I would like to see some more tools to adjust both elevation and time in TF.  I think a function to add/subtract a constant number would make a lot of sense.
